The Yorkshire Masters Darts Open

The Yorkshire Masters Darts Open which are organised in Association with Streamline Taxis (York) and sponsored by Red Dragon Darts, suppliers of York Darts Promotions official dartboards The Winmau Blade 4.

Stage 3 held at Starbeck WMC , Harrogate saw Yorkshire^s Ian Malkin and Brian Dawson produce a very high quality end to a most enjoyable day. Malkin who has recently returned to the Yorkshire County scene took the first leg of the best of 7 final in 15 darts. Dawson then levelled in 20 and drew clear with 15. A 115 finish for 15 and 18 darts saw Malkin regain the lead only to see Dawson level again with a 139 finish for 18. It was the off that proved all important with Malkin taking the deciding leg in 15 and ending with a 91.70 average. Dawson^s 91.12 average showed just how close the final was.

Malkin had previously won his semi-final 3-0 against York^s Chris Thompson hit a 180 score in each of his three 15 dart legs. Dawson included 20 and 2 x 18 dart legs in a 3-0 win to end Harrogate^s Steve Higgins hopes of making it an all Harrogate final.

Other games of note came from Thompson 106 finish for 21 and 158 finish for 15 in his 1/4 final victory over Keith Craggs who had earlier beat Colin Hendry with 20 and 115 finish for 15. Kirk Bevins 16-17-20 dart legs helped him qualify for The Grand Finals at Huntington WMC in York on Saturday 26th January 2013. Daz Mawer included a 107 finish whilst further 180^s were hit by Brian Dawson and John Bowler (2). Lewis Pride (Harrogate) is leading the furthest youth competition whilst Val Wilson (Harrogate) joined Julie Richardson (Barnsley) in the race for furthest lady.

Qualifiers for the Grand Finals from Stage 3 are Chris Thompson (York), Keith Craggs (Scorton), Kirk Bevins (York), Ian Malkin (Harrogate), Steve Higgins (Harrogate), Shaun Smith (Harrogate), John Bowler (Kendry) and Brian Dawson (Barnsley).Alex Pride (Harrogate) & Lutz Leutzsch (York) beat Johnny Law (York) & Colin Hendry (Ferrybridge) in the blind pairs final.

Stage 4 of The Yorkshire Masters Darts Open which was held at Eastway Sports & Social Club in Scarborough saw another quality final between East coast rivals Steve Rice (Bridlington) and Graham Elvidge (Scarborough). Rice opened with 2 x 13 dart legs only to see Rice reply with 2 x 17 darters. The final was completed with two 18 dart legs as Rice took the £100 stage prize winning 4-2. Rice included 2 x 180^s with an average of 92.84 with whilst Elvidge added a 180 score in his 77.46 average. Elvidge was the man in form in the early rounds hitting legs of 21-19-16-18-19 and then 20-21 on his way to a semi-final victory over Bridlingtons Barry Ballaban (18-19). Grimsby^s Darren Mawer hit 2 x 20 dart legs to book his semi-final place with Rice where going down 3-2.

Scarborough^s Jim Gordon ended York^s Dave Lords interest hitting 123 and 121 finishes in 2 x 12 dart legs including 2 x 180^s followed by 20 darts. Rice had earlier included 13 and 16 dart legs whilst Dan Timmings was a double 180 scorer.

Qualifiers for The Grand Finals at Huntington WMC in York on Saturday 26th January 2013 are Graham Elvidge, Jim Gordon (both Scarborough), Richard Heathcote, Barry Ballaban and Steve Rice (Bridlington), Daz Mawer (Grimsby), Carl South (Hunmanby) and York^s Simon Rimmington.

Neil Hart (York) and Barry Ballaban (Bridlington) won the blind pairs beating Andy Jones (Bankend) and Sarah Abbott (Driffield) in the final.

The remaining four qualifying stages are as folows:
Stage 5 24th November (Huntington WMC, York)
Stage 6 8th December 2012 (The Greyhound, Bridlington)
Stage 7 22nd December 2012 (Townville Rec. & Social Club, Castleford)
Stage 8 12th January 2013 (East Leeds Snooker Club, Leeds)
