The Wolf’s Howl is silenced

BDO World Championship – 12 January 2012 Review – Quarter-Finals – O’Shea and Harms Through

Tony O’Shea produced a magnificent display to end Martin Adams’ dreams of a hat-trick of World Championship titles.

O’Shea scored rampantly and finished clinically to win a high quality quarter final affair at Lakeside by five sets to two and move closer to claiming his first major title.

The first break of throw went O’Shea’s way when he took out 105 in the third leg of the match. He went on to take the first set. Wolfie hit a neat 101 finish in the second but was unable to prevent Silverback from doubling his advantage as he sealed the set with a brilliant twelve dart leg.

Adams produced a stunning 161 checkout to grab a break of throw for the first time. The defending World Champion then took out a stylish 118 finish to pull a set back.

O’Shea hit back with a 13 dart leg followed by a sensational maximum 170 finish, snatching the prize money for the highest checkout of the tournament straight back from his opponent. The 2009 finalist won all three legs in the fourth set to regain a two set lead. Wolfie replied by repeating that feat to reduce the deficit to a single set once again.

The next set was also a clean sweep, as Silverback took himself within touching distance of the semi-finals. He edged even closer with a fantastic eleven darter to break Adams’ throw in the first leg of set seven. He then held to leave himself a leg away from victory. The world number one won the next leg but it proved to be no more than a stay of execution as O’Shea hit double 16 to complete the upset.
