Enigmatic Dudley darts ace, Scott Baker, hit his second-ever PDC perfect leg at Players Championship 2 yesterday in his opening match against Danny Noppert.
Baker unfortunately lost the match 6-5 but can take encouragement for the feat and kick on into his second year on the PDC Pro Tour.
The opening weekend of ProTour events saw Gary Anderson and Nathan Aspinall win a Players Championship title each.
Anderson’s triumph at Players Championship 1 was his first PDC ranking title since winning the 2018 Matchplay, after the Scotsman suffered an injury-stricken 2019. Jeff Smith was his opponent in the final after a fantastic return to the Pro Tour for the Canadian, Anderson was too strong though as he battled to a 8-4 win.
Nathan Aspinall hit a 9 dart finish of his own along the way to the Players Championship 2 win and the Englishman needed it in his clash with World Champion Peter Wright.
In their titanic quarter-final clash, Aspinall hit the perfect leg and averaged a whopping 117.5 to win 6-4 against Wright who himself smashed in a 113.7 average.
Gerwyn Price faced Aspinall in the final for the title but couldn’t resist Aspinall’s scoring in the second half of the tie and eventually finished runner-up, with the Asp winning 8-3.
Peter Wright also made the quarter-finals on Saturday where he was defeated by in-form Jeff Smith 6-5, whilst Jamie Hughes made a quarter-final run with a 6-5 win over Michael van Gerwen.
