Article: EDO Ranking & The England Classic

EDO Ranking & The England Classic

The EDO Ranking System now includes over 5,000 players and whilst still in its infancy, the EDO are pleased to announce that the top eight players in both the Mens and Ladies Rankings will be invited to a play-off at the England Classic in September 2012 where the respective winners will receive £1,000 (mens) and £500 (ladies).

As we go into 2012 Glen Durrant (Cleveland) sits proudly at the top of the Mens Rankings, just eight points ahead of Paul Hogan (Berkshire) despite playing in two fewer events.

The top five are made up by Martin Atkins (Yorkshire) who led for a long time during 2011, Scott Mitchell (Dorset) is fourth and Andy Beardmore (Staffordshire) is fifth.

In the Ladies table there has been constant changing of the top place but Lisa Ashton (Lancashire) leads at the end of 2011 with a lead of thirteen points ahead of former England youth international Zoe Jones (Worcestershire).

Zoe is just one point ahead of Trina Gulliver (Warwickshire), whilst Deta Hedman (Oxfordshire) and Clare Bywaters (London) make up the top five.

So in both tables there are four of the 2011 England squads and the England Selectors are now also taking the England Rankings into consideration for International Selection.

Players can gain points from Super League, Inter-County, County Opens, all England events and International events, It is hoped that the Ranking Tables will encourage players to attend all of these events on a regular basis.

It is very difficult to estimate he total prize money paid out in the various qualifying events but w believe it is well in excess of £150,000.

This first initial Ranking Table has been run over a two year period and a review will be held after the finals at Bunn Leisure in 2012.

With the addition of the England Grosvenor Grand Prix (see above) there will be around sixty events where points can be attained towards the England Ranking tables. All these events are run in England by the EDO directly or the Member Counties and despite the current economic climate it is a great sign that the EDO are pushing the Organisation forward.

England Ranking Points have been recently allocated to the 2011 Men^s and Ladies^ singles events in the Lincolnshire Classic.
