The new Sheldon Heath Social Dukes In House League staged their very first knockout cup with all of the rounds leading up to the final being a do or die one leg shoot out. The first of the semi finals saw Paul Curry, after wins over Lee Molyneux and Rob Hicks account for Steve Groves to book his place in the final while from the other half of the draw Perry Pudge made his way to the final by taking out Phil Ashford and Chris Cotter. The final was extend to the best of three legs and went the full distance with Paul Curry recording scores of 3x100 and 140 while Perry Pudge hit 140 and 2x100, the 2-1 result going in favour of Paul Curry. Mark Gwalchmai continued his fine start to the new season in the Shirley Red Lion Premier League adding a 4-0 success against Mikey Harris and a 3-1 win over Adam Stuart to take him into pole position with 15 points from his opening four games, at the same time keeping intact his 100% win record. Only one other player in the starting line up of thirty players is able to boast an unbeaten four games and that is second placed Steve Sidwell who had 4-0 wins against Noreen Harris and Luke Coles to take his points tally to 14 just one short of Gwalchmai. Third place is shared by Mick Bown and league newcomer Phil Thomas, Bown didn’t play this week as he played four games in week one in which he won three and drew the other, Thomas had a 3-1 win over Tim Lowe and followed that with a 4-0 success against another new player to the league George Drennan, Bown and Thomas both have 12 points. The £5 prize for the week’s highest finish went to Mike Forsyth who despite losing 3-1 to Brian Lawton checked out on 109 in his one winning leg. Only one maximum was recorded on the night and that was achieved by Chris Thomas in his 2-2 draw with Lee Harris. The top two teams in group two of the South Birmingham League Pavillions and The Dog played each other in week six, the result finished all square at 4-4 which was enough to keep Pavillions at the top of the table with 10 points from six games but saw The Dog drop from second to third with 7 points from five games. Taking over the number two spot is Iron Horse who took their points tally to 8 with a convincing 7-1 win at The Kingfisher. In group three leaders Erdington Members Club handed out an 8-0 whitewash to their hosts Smithswood Social while second placed Mackadown Social were not far behind with a 7-1 win away to C’s Arrows to keep within two points of Erdington. Only two league results from the Forest of Arden Summer League and both of them finished with an 8-1 scoreline. League leaders Journeys End defeated Crown Arrows to put them on 12 points and keep them ahead of their local rivals Journeys End Flights on average, Flights also have a game in hand. In the latest round of fixtures in the Kings Norton League E57 were the only losers in the top six teams. Playing away against second in the table West Heath, E57 lost 5-2 and although they have games in hand on all three of the teams above them they are four points behind third in the table Stirchley United who were 5-2 winners at Grant Arms. Erdington Club moved one step nearer the division two title in the Sutton and District Summer League when they won 7-2 against Boldmere Tap to give them 18 points with two games to play. Second and third placed Red Lion and Boot played each other and the 7-2 win for Red Lion leaves them two points adrift of Erdington Club but six ahead of Boot who have three fixtures remaining compared to Red Lion’s two. Yardley Wood did their division two title hopes no harm whatsoever in the South West Birmingham Clubs League when they won 7-0 away to Longbridge Flights who are currently bottom of the division. Second and third placed Bartley Green FC ‘B’ and West Heath Warriors played each other on the former’s board and it was the hosts Bartley Green FC ‘B’ who got the 5-2 verdict to keep them within two points of top side Yardley Wood with a game in hand and four points ahead of their opponents. In division three the two ladies teams played against each other, the close 4-3 win going to Longbridge Ladies and leaving the home side Stirchley Ladies still seeking their first points of the season. With one game to spare What’s The Point with a 26-22 win over The Untouchables have clinched the Winmau Centre Monday League title. Second in the table Just The Tip were 33-15 winners against Oche Dokie giving them a total of 534 points and the runners up spot as they have now completed their fixture card. Despite their defeat The Untouchables with one game to go will finish third as with 501 points they are 63 ahead of their nearest rivals Utter Nutters. With Hay Mills Social Club Lions having their fixture with Holy Gulp cancelled in the Camp Hill League Cotterills Lane Club opened up a four points lead at the top of the table over Hay Mills with a 7-0 win against Wagon and Horses. The Pip Club League staged the finals of their Challenge Cups, the division one title went to Bulls Head ‘A’ (Polesworth) after beating Globe Trotters in the final, both teams recorded a maximum score Mark Martin finding the three treble twenties for Bulls Head and Wayne Macken for Globe Trotters. In the division two cup Royal Oak took the honours with a final victory over Globe (Wilnecote). The Winmau Darts Centre in the Wolverhampton Indoor Community Sports Area, Racecourse Road, WV6 0QU will be staging the second in the series of their Thursday Night Knockouts tomorrow night (3rd August) and for just a £5 entry fee there will be a guaranteed £100 prize for the winner plus in addition all entry fees will paid out in prize money. There was a 4-3 win at Village Inn for ECC ‘A’ table toppers in the Tettenhall Wednesday Night League while second placed Whitmore Reans WMC were 5-2 winners against Swan Compton whose defeat sees them drop from fourth to sixth in the table.
