On the fixture card for the South Birmingham League were cup semi finals and in the Roy Parry Cup it was not good news for Banbury as Banbury Arrows lost 7-2 to second in the division one table Mackadown Social and division leaders Erdington Members Club went one better against Banbury Flights beating them 8-1. In the Roy Parry Consolation Cup semi finals, second division side The Dog won 6-2 against their division one opponents Crown Arrows but there was no joy for the other division two team The Gate, who lost 6-3 to the The Raven from division one. The Four Oaks and District League played off their Individuals Doubles Knockout, the Richard Winslow Pairs sponsored by K & B Installations. The event staged at the Red Lion, Erdington attracted an encouraging total of thirty eight pairs. In the quarter finals S.Paling & R.Hawker (Boldmere St Mikes) with 13 and 14 darts legs beat J.Prince & M.Partridge (The Boat) 2-0. K.Reynolds & K.Deeley (The Boat) also won 2-0 against K.Smith & M.Corfield (The Fox), both of the winning pairs having made their way through to the semi finals without dropping a single leg. J.Mahon & M.Pearce (Drakes Drum) lost 2-0 to M.Wild & M.Ashton (Boldmere St Mikes) while J.Frost & W.Naylor (Golden Hind) made their way to the last four with a 2-1 win over C.Sammons & A.France (Bishop Vesey). In the semi-finals K.Reynolds & K.Deeley continued their 2-0 winning run taking out S.Paling & R.Hawker and to join them in the final were M.Wild & M.Ashton with a 2-1 win against J.Frost & W.Naylor. It was a dramatic final with M.Wild & M.Ashton opening up a 2-0 lead before K.Reynolds & K.Deeley rallied to take the next three legs and the title with their 3-2 victory. B.Stephens (Boldmere St Mikes) and M.Hall (Bishop Vesey) hit maximums, R.Hawker (Boldmere St Mikes) had a 160 break. The Forest of Arden Winter League played the semi finals of their Consolation Cup which produced a huge shock for first division side Kingshurst Knights as they were beaten 8-1 by Chelmlsey Town who are bottom of division two without a win in their six league games so far. The other last four game was an all division two affair with Inn on the Green winning 5-1 against Highwood Exiles. The eighth Shirley Red Lion Premier League got underway with a tremendous 22 players turning up and another 9 to join in week two, which with 31 players would beat the previous highest of 25. The league sees the return of former winner Lee Harris to challenge reigning champion Mick Gorst for this season’s title, but Harris didn’t have the best of starts as the highlight of the first night was when Mike Forsyth came from 2-0 down to claim an unlikely draw against the much fancied Harris, Forsyth checking out twice on 116 to earn his draw. Pete Silver celebrated his return to the league by winning the £5.00 which is on offer each week for the highest finish as he checked out onn120 Mick Gorst is top of the pile after the first week but he has played an extra game due to the fact that he won't be making the considerable journey from his Devon home (Yes Devon!!) every week. Hillyfields ‘B’ extended their unbeaten run to nine games in the Kings Norton League but it was close as their hosts Kings Norton Ex Serviceman’s Club kept the result down to 4-3. Second placed West Heath with a 5-2 home win over Toby Jug Flights are on the same 18 points as Hillyfields ‘B’ but have played one game more than the leaders. The Winmau Centre Monday Night League have completed their fixtures and the new winners of the league are What’s The Point who rounded off their eighteen games season with a massive 44-4 win over Full Monty to give them a final total of 629 points twenty five more than runners up and a former title holder of the title The Untouchables who also had a big finish beating Make Mine A Double 41-7. A 2-1 win over Alan Wale in week four of the Sheldon Marlborough Cricket Club Singles League has taken Dave Howlett top of the table with 19 points two more than the chasing pair Dave Humphries and Paul Brown, Humphries beating Ray Turner 3-0 and Brown winning 2-1 against Steve McCarthy. Humphries although two points adrift of leader Howlett has only played six games compared to Howlett and Brown having played eight. The Brierley Hill Monday Night League are up to week four and Bulls Head (Netherton), the only team in the league with a 100% win record, took their undefeated run to four with a convincing 8-1 win at Brewers Wharf to keep them two points ahead of Dudley Ex Serviceman’s Club, Pensnett Liberal Club, Dudley Sports ‘B’ and Mount Pleasant, Mount Pleasant suffering their first defeat and dropping from second to fifth in the table after going down 6-3 at Delph Bell. Pensnett Welfare Club ‘A’ lead the way in the Brierley Hill Friday Night League their latest 7-0 success away to The Bridge (Kingswinford) keeping them top ahead of both Netherton Cricket Club ‘A’ and Brickmakers Arms on average, all three teams having 36 points. Current leader of the Winmau Centre Thursday Night Champions League is Chris Manoila with 71 points from 14 games. Second placed Adam Quinton is eight points behind Manoila with a game in hand and reigning champion Mick Baker is currently lying in sixth place with 56 points from 11 games, but the man to keep an eye on is ninth placed Sam Guest who is the only player in the league to have won all of his games, he has a total of 47 points and although some 24 short of Manoila has only played eight games and with six in hand he could amass a further 42 points which would take his tally to 89.
Week eight of the Stourbridge and District Monday Night League saw wins for the top five teams, leaders Ten Arches ‘A’ made it eight straight wins with a 6-3 home win over Kingswinford Conservative Club, the same scoreline by which their second placed ‘B’ team won at Stourbridge RBL to keep them to within two points of the ‘A’ as are third and fourth placed Brickmakers Arms and Gate ‘B’, Brickmakers winning 8-1 at Quarry Bank Conservative Club and Gate 7-2 at The Bird (Wordsley). Woodside march on in the Silver End Sunday Morning League adding a 5-3 win at The Bell to their previous eight wins to keep them six points ahead of the field. Brickmakers ‘A’ after winning 6-2 away to Dudley Sports ‘B’ overtake their hosts and move into second place with a one point advantage over Dudley Sports ‘B’ who are now third. A 4-3 loss away to Wednesfield Conservative Club has seen Jack’s Bar replaced at the top of the division one singles league by Riley’s ‘C’ in the Wolverhampton Tuesday Night League, Riley’s ‘C’ winning the local derby with Riley’s ‘A’ 5-2 to make it three straight win and a perfect six points. Sunbeam in second place are the only other team in the division to have won all three games the latest being 4-3 at The Boat. The Yeltz Bar Tuesday Night Singles League were involved in a charity night, the second end of month Air Ambulance Charity Knockout with 12 entries, the winner at the end of the night being Steve Carey who won 4-1 in the final against Chris Hall. Chris then very kindly donated his prize money to the charity. The semi finals saw Chris Hall win 3-2 against Tommy Johnson and Steve Carey beat Richard Reed 3-0. Throughout the night there were 180's from Tommy Johnson, Chris Hall and Richard Reed (3). Steve Carey recorded a 151 checkout. Richard Reed had a 14 darts winning leg. The event raised a further £48.00 which will be added to the Air Ambulance Charity Fund.
K.Harris and R.Harris continue to dominate the Halesowen Friday Night 501 Singles League, K.Harris adding a 6-0 win over K.Dauncey to his account to give him 10 points at the top of the table and R.Harris with a 4-2 success against T.Johnson also on 10 points but trailing slightly on average in second place, this was Johnson’s first defeat in five games and sees him drop two places in the table to fifth. Week five saw first wins for D.Richmond and C.Kehoe, Richmond with a 180 beating J.Hall 6-0 and Kehoe also with a 180 winning 4-2 against P.Kelly.
