Darts News – A West Midlands Round Up By Alan Towe

The penultimate fixtures of the season in the Four Oaks and District League decided nothing and both divisions must now wait until the final league matches have been played to reveal the winners.
In division one The Beehive go top by just one leg of average replacing Boldmere St Mikes after their 9-0 win at Pint Pot Flights. Should both teams win their final games the title will be decided by who wins by the biggest margin and Boldmere have the toughest task as they will play away to third in the table Golden Hind while Beehive have a home tie against fourth placed Old Oscott WMC.
In the second division leaders Golden Hind Arrows lost 5-4 at Brookvale Social who previously had only won five of their fifteen games, the defeat keeping second placed Bishop Vesey still in with an outside chance of snatching the title.

Two more wins for the top two teams in the premier division of the Sheldon and District Winter League, leaders Crown at Shard End winning their home tie with Saltley Amateur Gardeners 7-2 to keep them two points ahead of Crown at Olton who won their game at East Birmingham Allotment Holders Association 6-3, but Olton do have a game in hand on Shard End.
In division one an 8-1 home win over Marston Green Tavern has taken Solihulll Moors another step nearer the title but they have to keep a close eye on second placed Iron Horse whose 5-4 home win over Sheldon Marlborough Flights has taken their points tally to 22, eight short of Moors but they do have two games in hand and there are still games to play.
A 7-2 win at Small Heath Amateur Gardeners has kept Crown Arrows top of division two giving them a total of 26 points, Highwood Arrows are just two points behind following their 7-2 win at Ridgemere Social.

The Kings Norton League had their Section Cup on the fixture card and in the top section league leaders Court Oak had a 14-7 win over Toby Jug ‘A’. The Upper section game produced a close 11-10 win for Kings Norton RBL against Rubery RBL the same margin by which Kings Norton Ex Serviceman’s Club beat Bulls Head in the Lower Section and also the same result in the bottom section as Weoley Hill defeated Billesley.

Riley’s Sports Bar, Solihull staged the latest of their ever increasingly popular Last Sunday in the Month Open’s and taking the top prize of £110 was Nick Fullwell who beat fellow West Midlands County player Ian Jones 6-4 in a thrilling final, Jones as runners up received £70.

In the last four games Fullwell won 5-2 against Graham Hall while Jones had a slightly closer 5-3 verdict against Neil Parsonage. The losing semi finalists each received £20.
The winner of the Plate Competition was Dean Saunders who had a straight 3-0 victory in the final against Neil Clarke, Saunders collected £40 and Clarke £20.

The Camp Hill League played off their singles competition and adding yet another title to his ever increasing total was Neil Parsonage from Cotterills Lane Club. Parsonage beat Hay Mills Lions representative Simon Edwards in the final, Lions being well represented as their Peter Yardley and Richard Hogan both progressed to the last four.

It was cup week in the Pip Club League, first the Belgrave Cup in which Bulls Head ‘A’ (Polesworth) and Bichmoor Club both won through to the next round in division one after beating in turn Prince of Wales and Pip Club. The division two games saw wins for Globe Trotters and Progressive Club at the expense of Royal Oak and Globe (Wilnecote).
In the division one game’s in the Belgrave Shadow Cup, Sports Bar ‘180’ beat Wigginton Arms and Belgrave Club won against Two Gates Club. In division two Winning Post defeated Bulls Head ‘B’ (Polesworth) and Old Liberal had a bye.

The doubles knockout was the order of the day for the Forest of Arden Winter League and in the men’s event it was the pairing of Jason Jennings and Andy Howell who were successful as they took the title with a final 2-1 win over John Sidwell and Bob Nixon.

After the opening three games of the Small Heath League’s season only two of the eight teams are able to boast an unbeaten record, East Birmingham Allotment Holders Association move up one place to top but only by one leg of average over Mitre after a 6-3 win against Holy Gulp who drop from top to third in the table. Mitre were also 6-3 winners in their home game against Emerald Club.

Week nine in the Cradley Tuesday Night League saw six of the eight games finish with a 6-3 result the other two being 5-4, but surprisingly leaders White Horse were the only winners in the top three teams, a 5-4 result at White Swan giving them a four points advantage while their opponents dropped one place to fourth.
Brickmakers Arms move up two places to second after a 6-3 win at Crown (Station Road) who drop down one place to third.

Miners (Wollescote) held on to their two points lead at the top of the Brierley Hill Friday Night League with a 7-2 win against Dudley Sports, second placed Brickmakers Arms who had a bye are now two points adrift of Miners with a game in hand.
Netherton Cricket Club are third in the table, they had an 8-1 home win over Roebuck to put them on 20 points which is four less than Brickmakers and six fewer than Miners but they have only played 13 games compared to Brickmakers 14 and Miners 15.

The Nuton added a 5-2 win over their hosts Allens Sports Bar ‘A’ to their tally in the Bilston and District League to give them a total of 50 points from 26 games and a lead of eight over second in the table Tilted Barrel whose 6-1 win at home to White Hart ‘B’ takes them to 42 points from 27 games the same number of points as third placed Lanesfield RBL who had 5-2 win at White Hart ‘A’ leaving them with a game in hand on Tilted Barrel.

The Stourbridge and District Wednesday Night League have got their new season underway and have increased their numbers by another three teams giving a total of seventeen, and kicking off the season with the highest score of 5-2 were Ashwood ‘A’, Brickmakers Arms, The Fox (Lye), Gornal Conservative Club and Miners Welfare who in turn defeated Ashwood ‘B’, Britannia, Crestwood, Wombourne Cricket Club and Hollybush.

T & R Bar suffered their first defeat in the opening five games of the Wednesbury and Darlaston Wednesday Night League when they lost 5-4 away to Horse and Jockey, they drop to third in the table one leg worse off than their second placed opponents. Taking over in pole position is St Mary’s ‘A’ who had a 7-2 win over Red Lion to give them a slender one leg advantage over Horse and Jockey with the top three teams all on eight points.

The Halesowen Friday Night Singles League are up to match eight and in group ‘A’ J.Gale with 7-0 wins over J.Smith and A.Smith is on 47 points six more than R.Hill in second place who also had a 7-0 win over R.Langford but then lost 4-3 to L.Law, but he does have two games in hand on Gale.
In group ‘B’ D.McConomy leads the way with 45 points after his 7-0 defeat of N.Jones, second placed S.Oakley lost ground as he went down 4-3 to S.Carey and is now six points off the top.

The Hilltop Friendly Tuesday Night League played round two of their Blackcountry Windows Cup the results going pretty much to form with wins for Dewdrop, Island Inn, The Vine and Merry-Go-Round against respective opponents Albion, New Talbot, Hayes Social and Old Hop Pole.

Two rearranged fixtures completed the Netherton Thursday Night League’s fixtures, both results being close 5-4 verdicts in which runners up Bulls Head beat Fairfield and league champions Rose and Crown rounded off their campaign with a win over third placed Dudley Ex Serviceman’s Club.

Riley’s ‘C’ moved from third to top of division one of the Wolverhampton Tuesday Night League when they beat Penn Bowling 6-1, Ashmore Inn losing the number one spot on average after their much closer 4-3 win over Victoria. Bradmore ‘B’ had their first defeat inflicted on them by Wednesfield Conservative Club, a 4-3 reversal which took them from second to fourth in the table.
In division two a 7-0 win over Sunbeam sees Dog and Partridge take over pole position from The Bull who had a 5-2 win against Ukrainian Club. Sunbeam’s loss sees them drop a massive six places in the table to ninth while Ukrainian Club are still seeking their first points of the season.

Riley’s lead the way in the Tettenhall Wednesday Night League their ‘A’ team with a 6-1 win over Jack’s Bar just ahead of the ‘B’ side on average after they won 4-3 at Moreton. Third in the table Whitmore Reans WMC had a 5-2 win away to ECC which puts them within two points of the leading duo with a game in hand but they do trail massively on average.

Week seventeen in the West Midlands Men’s Super League and Crown ‘A’ lead the way on 97 points from 16 games after their 4-1 win over third placed Staffordshire Knot who are some 21 points behind the leaders. Second placed Landywood ‘A’ had a bye this week which leaves them with a game in hand but trailing Crown ‘A’ by 20 points.

In the Tamworth League Prince of Wales ‘A’ who are top of the league lost the local derby against their ‘B’ side who are third by 4-3, however the ‘A’ team remain in the number one spot with 117 points from 14 games, Fox and Dogs are second they won 6-1 against Progressive Club to leave them five points adrift of the top side and Prince of Wales ‘B’ are twelve points adrift of their ‘A’ team with a game in hand.
