Wolverhampton-based darts player Kevin Lane is celebrating after winning the Winmau Centre Thursday Night Champions League for which he not only pocketed £300 but also won a major twelve months sponsorship package with the world’s leading darts brand Winmau.
If Lane can now qualify for the PDC ‘Q’ School, he^ll be paid a cash award by Winmau with further money from television appearances plus the supply of equipment from Winmau’s class-leading range of dartboards, darts and accessories.
The Winmau Centre Thursday Night Champions League which is played in the Wolverhampton Indoor Community Sports Stadium will be launching their new season shortly and organizer and stadium owner Dharam Jagpal says there will be more big prizes on the cards together with the year-long Winmau contract for the lucky winner plus cash prizes down to the last player. Second in the table Beehive had a bye this week and are the only other team in the division to have won all of their games. Joining Beehive on six points but from four games is Golden Hind who had a 7-2 win away to Boldmere Sports and Social.
In the second division Bishop Vesey, who are unbeaten and second in the table were made to fight for their win levelling their match against Brookvale Social three times before edging in front on the seventh game and going on to win 5-4. Leaders Golden Hind Arrows had a more comfortable 6-3 win over Boldmere Tap to lead the division with a perfect score of eight points.
B.Linnecor (Boldmere St Mike’s) followed up last week’s maximum in the cup with another one this week in the league against Plough and Arrows.

Simon Edwards put himself in pole position with two wins but the title was not to be as Mick Gorst with 3-2 wins over Noreen Harris and Steve Sidwell plus a 3-1 win against Pete Silver put him level on 52 points with Edwards but with a far superior average to take the coveted league championship. Simon Edwards took the runners up spot with Paul Higgins on 50 points finishing third.
At the other end of the table there was a rare win for Stuart Dixon a 3-2 success against Chris Devlin seeing him move away from the foot of the table, Alex Hesketh taking the wooden spoon.
The highest finish of the season was a superb 170 by Julian Harris while the most 180s which was five was shared between Chris Devlin and Pete Silver. The least darts of thirteen was achieved by Mark Gwalchmai, Steve Sidwell and Tom Bent.

In the league Court Oak are top of the table and unbeaten in 15 games while West Heath are fourth and have lost four of their 14 games. The match however was a real high scoring affair with Court Oak notching 21 scores of a ton or more plus 2x180 compared to West Heath’s 19 tons or over. Other winners from the round were Dingle Social, Toby Jug ‘A’ and Kings Norton RBL who in turn took out Stirchley United, Hillyfields and Rubery RBL. In round one of the league’s Consolation Cup Kings Norton Ex Serviceman’s Club had an impressive 6-1 win over Kings Heath while Weoley Hill beat Toby Jug Flights 5-2, Bulls Head won 4-3 against Cotteridge.

There was also a shock for third in the table Bulls Head as they lost 6-3 away to fifth placed Fairfield.

In division two one-time leaders Pheasant who have recently dropped to third place behind Whitmore Reans WMC and Roebuck suffered an amazing 7-0 defeat away to mid table Woodfield Social but hang on to third place with 40 points. Whitmore Reans stay four points ahead of Roebuck with a 6-1 home win against The Bull, Roebuck were 4-3 winners at Old Stags Head.
