Defending champion Lisa Ashton recovered from a shaky start to outgun Rhian Griffiths and admitted: “Every game feels like a final.”
The Lancashire Rose was left wilting by an aggressive start by Welsh wonder Griffiths who leapt into an early two-leg lead at the Lakeside.
But classy Ashton, going for her fourth world championship win, fought back to win the first set and then wrapped up the second with double 12 for victory.
Ashton, 47, admitted: “It was a shaky start. Rhian is a good player and she set off well, I missed quite a few doubles but I’m happy to just get the win.
“I had to dig in deep just play my own game and concentrate and just delighted to get there.
“Wearing glasses has adjusted my throwing but I’m getting there.
“I’ve got a tough draw ahead against either Corrine Hammond or Fallon Sherrock. I’ve just to recalculate, keep practising, every game now feels like a final.
“I want this title. It’s the best tournament in the championship but I just do one game at a time and the next game is very tough.
“It’s been a good year and extra special because it’s the third time I’ve won. Obviously I want the fourth but I’ve just got to play every game as it goes.”
