A New Champion is Crowned at the 2025 Worthington’s Champions of Champions

The 2025 Worthington’s Champions of Champions was nothing short of spectacular. The world’s greatest grassroots darts event once again delivered it all — shock early exits, nail-biting drama, and an unforgettable all-Welsh final that crowned a brand-new Champion.

This tournament is more than just another event. It’s the pinnacle of grassroots darts: a battlefield where reputations are tested, dreams are made, and hearts are broken.

Let’s dive into the moments that defined this year’s unforgettable competition.

Early Surprises

The drama started early, with big names falling sooner than expected. Last year’s winner Nick Kenny crashed out of the main competition before making a run to the Plate final. But even there, he was stopped in his tracks by a sensational performance from rising star Connor Hopkins, who claimed the Plate title in style.

The Road to the Final

By the last 16, the lineup showcased the true depth of talent at this event — from former winners and current Welsh internationals to PDC Tour Card holders and even a USA international.

The quarter-finals confirmed that we would crown a brand-new Champion. And by the semi-finals, the atmosphere inside the venue was electric, with every dart cheered on by the passionate crowd.

  • David Davies impressed with a 2-0 victory over Martin Thomas, producing a 93.94 average and two sublime 16-darters.

  • On the other side, Liam Meek edged out Kieran Harris 2-1 in a high-scoring thriller to secure his spot in the final.

Plate Final Brilliance

While the main event built towards its climax, the Plate competition produced its own fireworks.

Connor Hopkins lit up the stage against Nick Kenny with four consecutive tons and a superb 101 checkout in the opening leg. He sealed a 2-0 victory to take home the Plate crown, marking himself as a serious talent for the future.

The Grand Final

The main stage erupted for an all-Welsh international clash between David Davies and Liam Meek — both fresh from representing their country at the Six Nations and preparing for the upcoming WDF World Cup in South Korea.

  • The opening leg went to Davies, who hammered in a maximum before finishing clean on tops.

  • Meek roared back to level, raising the roof and setting up a dramatic decider.

The final leg delivered pure grassroots theatre. Both players traded five ton-plus scores in a breathless exchange. Meek narrowly missed an 85 checkout that would have sealed glory, but Davies held his nerve, producing a brilliant 16-darter to etch his name into Champions history.

A Champion Crowned

With victory, David Davies now joins the illustrious list of Champions of Champions winners. Overcome with emotion, he reflected on the brutal format and the unwavering support of his family throughout his journey.

Calling it the best day of his life, Davies admitted the triumph even surpassed his Challenge Tour successes. But perhaps most importantly, he underlined the life-changing significance of the £10,000 prize:

“Let's not forget the money is massive. It's massive for my career. Yes, I've got a full-time job and I do this on the side, but 10,000 pounds is absolutely huge.”

Grassroots Glory

The 2025 Worthington’s Champions of Champions will be remembered as one of the most thrilling in its history. From early shocks to a final that showcased everything special about grassroots darts, it proved once again why this event holds such a unique place in the game.

Congratulations to David Davies — the 2025 Champion of Champions! 🎯
