
Darts News – A West Midlands Round Up
The Kings Norton League have been involved in the finals of their league section cups, in the top section games, league champions Northfield made it a super double by winning 13-8 against Bournebrook who are placed third in the league table. Northfield had maximums from L.Allen and R.Hitchmough while K.Webb replied for Bournebrook.
The middle section title went to Greenlands who have completed their league fixtures and finish fourth on thirty-six points, fourteen fewer than champions Northfield. Greenlands won the middle section with a 12-9 success against Toby Jug who are six places below them in the league table but still have three games to play. Tom Garfield was in tremendous form for Greenlands chalking up scores of 3x100,105,118,121,120,140 and 180 in addition to recording a fourteen darts game.
The final of the bottom section brought together Perfection who are eighth in the league and seventh placed Cock Inn, both teams are on twenty-two points, Perfection with one more game to play and Cock Inn having played all of their scheduled twenty-six games. The result was a 13-8 win for Perfection with P.Smith notching a maximum for the winners.

With just three more games to play Northfield Conservative Club, with fifty points and a lead of six on second placed Northfield Darts Club in the Harborne and District League have still not secured the title and require one more win to do so as Northfield Darts Club have four remaining fixtures. The latest round of games saw Northfield Conservative Club win 7-2 playing away against fifth placed Smethwick Cricket Club while Northfield Darts Club had a similar 7-2 win at Thimble Mill who are in sixth position. Northfield Darts Club still have a battle on their hands for the runners-up spot as third and fourth placed Copper Fox ‘R’ and Copper Fox ‘M’ have both played the same twenty-four games as Northfield Darts Club, have four more games to play and are both on forty-two points, just two short of Northfield Darts Club.
There were four players who found the three treble twenties in the league this week and they were S.Hale (Weoley Castle WMC), V.Gould (Smethwick Cricket Club), A.Busby (Northfield Conservative Club) and J.Hykin (Copper Fox ‘R’).

Raven Arrows consolidated their number one spot in group one of the Sheldon and District Summer League in the very best possible way by handing out an 8-0 whitewash to their hosts, bottom of the group Brian’s Flights, Jack Alexander hitting a maximum for the group leaders. Second in the group Langley Arrows, with a maximum from Paul Nixon had a closer 5-3 win at Trident Spears puts them on twelve points and keeps them within one point of Raven Arrows. The defeat for Trident Spears cost them their third place and they drop to fourth on seven points with Highwood replacing them in the number three position following their 4-4 draw at Mackadown Sports and Social Club, Highwood’s eight points, one more than Trident Spears.
A 7-1 win at bottom of the group Hunters Moon keeps Banbury Club top of group two with thirteen points from their seven games. RAFA had their fixture with EBAHA postponed but nevertheless they hold on to second place with ten points one more than Kingshurst Labour Club in third place after they were held to a 4-4 home draw by Smithswood Social Club. Although only one point behind RAFA, Kingshurst have played two more games than them.
Old Salts Darts have a commanding five points lead at the top of group three, their latest fixture, away to third in the group Raven saw them return with a 5-3 win and a maximum from Dannu Chiswell, Raven are now six points short of their opponents. Second in the group Sheldon Marlborough Ridge also won 5-3 playing away against bottom placed Shirley Misfits and also had a maximum thanks to Pete Carey.
Top of group four is Lyndon Old Boys, they held on to pole position with a 6-2 home win over Maggies and stay two points to the good on their nearest rivals Station Inn who also had a 6-1 win playing away against third in the group Sheldon Marlborough Flights whose Steve Whatmore scored a maximum. The defeat for Sheldon Marlborough Flights leaves them four points off the top but they do have a game in hand.

Hilltop Friendly Tuesday Night League leaders Allen’s Bar had a comfortable 6-1 home win over Sow and Pigs in week twenty-one to take their points tally to thirty-eight while second in the league Vine ‘A’ lost ground in the title race as they went down 4-3 at home to fourth in the league Wonder ‘B’ who are on thirty-four points, four fewer than the three teams above them who all have thirty-eight points. Cottage Spring are third in the table, their 5-2 win at Sandwell keeping level on points with the two teams above them. It gets no easier for bottom of the league Royal Yeomanry, a 7-0 defeat at Ivy Bush making it twenty-one straight defeats.

There was a bottom of the table clash in the Silver End Sunday Morning League as bottom placed Pensnett Liberal Club ‘B’ took on local rivals and next to bottom of the table Pensnett Liberal Club ‘A’. The outcome was a 4-4 draw to see Pensnett Liberal Club ‘B’ chalk up their first point in fifteen games, however they stay bottom of the table and four points behind their opponents who remain next to bottom of the league. At the other end of the table, leaders Old Star, made it fourteen wins in fifteen games when they won 6-2 at Brier Rose to give them a total of forty-two points, six more than second placed Dudley Sports ‘A’ after they also won 6-2 at home against High Acres ‘B’ and although they trail the leaders by six points they have two games in hand. Third placed Dudley Ex Serviceman’s Club have played sixteen games and made it a trio of 6-2 wins for the top three teams when in their home fixture they defeated sixth placed Spring Meadow Social.

With the opening nine games of the new season completed in the Stourbridge and District Wednesday Night League, leaders Chop House made it nine straight wins when they won 6-1 at Old Liberal Club ‘B’. Second in the league Stourbridge FC ‘A’ had a narrow 4-3 win at BeechTree Miners to put them on sixteen points, two fewer than Chop House but two more than third placed Raven who also had a close 4-3 home win over Old Liberal Club ‘A. After the top three come four teams all on twelve points and they are Bird in Hand ‘E’, Hollybush, Old Liberal Club ‘A’ and Ashwood. Bird in Hand ‘E’ won 4-3 at home against Netherton Conservative Club, Hollybush had a huge 7-0 home win over Five Ways and Ashwood were on the receiving end of a 7-0 defeat away to Swan who are now just below them in the table placed eighth and only two points behind their opponents.

It’’s close at the top of the Stourbridge and District Monday Night League with the top two teams, Gornal British Legion and Old Liberal Club both on forty-four points, but the Liberal Club have a game in hand on the British Legion. In their latest outings both teams won 7-0, Gornal British Legion winning at Gigmill and Old Liberal Club winning at home against Glasscutters ‘B’. Ten Arches ‘A’ are third, their 5-2 win at Raven ‘A’ keeping them within two points of the two teams above them and giving them a four points lead on fourth placed Glasscutters ‘A’ who had a 5-2 home win over Five Ways. After twenty-three games, Glasscutters ‘B’ lie at the foot of the table without a win or single point so far. In the shadow league Queens Head, top the table with a perfect ten points from five games while second placed Raven ‘A’ are on the same ten points but have played six games.

Played twenty-three, won twenty-three, that’s the record for Wonder in the Rowley Monday Night League, their most recent fixture seeing them win 7-2 at Whiteheath Tavern with their K.Hopton hitting no fewer than two maximums. All though Wonder have such a fine record they only have a slender two points lead on second placed and reigning champions Bell who were 8-1 winners at Spring Meadow with their C.Dabbs hitting a maximum and T.Brenna having a 160 break. After Bell, there is a ten points gap to third in the league Tividale FC who had a rather close 5-4 win at sixth plaed Rowley Labour Club.
Only average separates the top three teams in the shadow league, Huntingtree topping the table with a three legs of average lead on Vine who in turn are one leg of average better off than third in the table Rowley Bar and Grill, all three teams are on six points.

In the Black Country Men’s Super League leaders Allen’s Bar ‘A’ were involved in a local derby with Allen’s Bar ‘B’ which resulted in a 4-1 win for the ‘A’ team to give them a total of fifty-six points and a lead of six over second placed Quarry Bank Liberal Club after they won by the same 4-1 margin at home over Ten Arches. Dudley Ex Serviceman’s Club are third, they didn’t play this week and are the only team in the league to have won all of their fixtures, they have played twelve and are on forty-two points with two games in hand on the two teams above them.

Just the one rearranged fixture played in the West Midlands Men’s Super League this week which matched the league’s bottom two teams, next to bottom Gate Inn winning 4-1 at home against bottom of the table Junction ‘B’ to leave Junction ‘B’ on six points and without a win in seventeen games, Gate Inn still just above them but with twenty-seven points.

A new league has recently got underway, the Black Country Ladies Teams Super League, which consists of four teams, all from Allen’s Bar, Tipton. Leading the way after the first three fixtures is Allen’s Bar ‘C’ with an undefeated three wins, they have a single point lead on second and third placed Allen’s Bar ‘B’ and Allen’s Bar ‘A’, the ‘B’ side losing their most recent fixture against Allen’s Bar ‘C’ 3-2 while the ‘A’ team chalked up their first win in three, a 4-1 success over their ‘D’ team.

With second and third placed Nick Fullwell and Paul Wells not playing this week in the Amblecote RBL Premier League, leader Jason Lowe took full advantage to extend his lead at the top of the table to thirty-one points with a 6-1 win over Shane Sheridan followed by a 7-0 success over Connor Whitehouse. Fullwell and Wells both drop down one place to third and fourth respectively in the league table with Ian Townsend moving up two places to take over the number two spot after he beat Ian Kelly and Chris Cox 7-0 to give him a total of 303 points, like Fullwell he is on thirty-one points but he has played one game more than Fullwell.

Scott Baker took his undefeated run to twenty-two games in division one of the Gilbert’s Bar Monday Night Singles League with a 6-2 win over third placed Steve Lynch and at the same time kept intact his thirty-two points lead on second placed Simon Mountford won also won 6-2 in his game with Allan Davies.
In division two there were no games for the top two players Michael Smith and Joe Bartolo, Smith holding on to pole position with 183 points while Bartolo dropped one place to third. A convincing 8-0 win over Kevin Bate has seen Richard Brown move up into second place with 151 points, Bartolo having played on game less than Brown and is on 148 points.
Division three leader Olly Garratt was another player not to play this week, however his 170 points is still thirty-four to the good on second placed Troy Simmonds who missed the opportunity to reduce the arrears even further when he lost 5-3 to Dave Akers who is fourth, twelve points behind Simmonds with a game in hand.

Junction ‘B’ hold on to the top position in the singles league of the Wolverhampton Tuesday Night League, with a 6-1 win at Dog and Partridge ‘A’, but they only have a four legs of average lead on second placed Dog and Partridge ‘B’ who were 5-2 winners at Junction ‘C’ to leave the top two teams on sixteen points. Third placed Ashmore are two points adrift of the top two teams after they handed out a 7-0 whitewash to their hosts Junctin ‘D’.
In the doubles league it’s really close, Gilbert’s Bar ‘A’ had a 2-1 win at Golden Lion ‘B’, Junction ‘D’ won 2-1 against Ashmore and New Gate Inn lost 3-0 at Three Crowns to see all three teams on the same fourteen points and level on average at the top of the table.
