Warwickshire County darts extended their unbeaten run when they earned a 21-16 home victory over Essex in the premier division of the BDO Inter Counties Championship. However, it has to be said that the ladies were in no small way a big influence in the win. Both ladies teams recorded 5-1 wins with Trina Gulliver (25.47) taking the ‘A’ teams award and Vicki Byrne (20.20) the ‘B’s.

There were mixed fortunes for the men as the ‘B’ side, after leading 4-2 lost 4-8, Tom Ryan (26.91) their top player. The ‘A’ chalked up their first win of the campaign, a 7-5 success in which Mark Hollyoake took the match award with his 30.06 average.

It was not such a happy tale for the West Midlands in division three. Playing away to Devon they desperately needed a result after losing both of their opening games. Unfortunately it was not to be. The only shining light from the weekends games was provided by the men’s ‘A’ side, who beat their counterparts 8-4 for their first win of the season. For the second consecutive match Mangal Singh (27.57) took the man of the match award. The ‘B’ side went down 5-7, their first defeat so far. Jamie Parsons (28.75) was their top man. Angie Perry (18.63) and Sue Smith (14.54) took in turn the ‘A’ and ‘B’ awards with their respective teams losing 2-4 and 1-5.

In the local derby between Hobs Meadow Mixes and Hobs Meadow in the Forest of Arden Winter League it was the former who got the 6-3 verdict. Prior to the match both teams were unbeaten with Mixes two points behind their rivals simply because they had played one game fewer, they are now the only team in the league able to boast a 100% record. There was no joy for the Cock and Hens in their search for their first win as they lost 5-4 at home to Farringdon Social, who had previously won just one of their fixtures,

John Stait (Solihull Borough Flights) hit a 180 as his side won 6-3 at the Highwood.

----------------------------------

There was a setback for Harborne Stores, leaders of the premier division of the Harborne and District Winter League as they lost their unbeaten status going down 5-4 at home to Bartley Green Social Club. Meanwhile, Highlander kept up their challenge with a 7-2 success at the Raven.

In division one Avenue and New Inns had 5-4 victories over Bartley Green Social Flights and Village Stump.

The Minworth Social Individual League has a new leader as Peter Allen leapfrogged Mark Hollyoake to take over the number one spot. Allen had 3-0 wins against Steve Cain jnr and Steve Hawkes, plus a 2-1 win over Steve Davis. Hollyoake lost his pole position because of his 2-1 reversal at the hands of reigning champion Richie Shenton and is now five points adrift of Allen.

Maximums were hit by Richie Shenton (2), Steve Davis, Carl Betteridge, Trevor Frost, Gordon Clinton, Mark Hollyoake, Peter Allen, Ricky Lawrence and Steve Brindley.

Dave Platt was in a high coring mood in the Sportsmans Rest Double To League this week hitting two maximums in his 2-1 win over Paul Cummings (who also hit a 180, together with further maximums against Rob South and John Platt) and another against Lance Thompson whom he beat 3-0. Platt, with 102 points is second in the table, four points adrift of John Ainsworth who had a 3-0 success against Tony Pedley and a 2-1 win over Steve Cain. Richie Shenton was another player in form as in his 3-0 win against Tom Dillon he hit 180,177,2x140,100 and recorded a fabulous eleven darts leg.

Steve Cain, Lance Thompson and John Platt were other players to hit 180.

----------------------------------

St Annes stretched their 100% record to nine wins in the premier division of the Sheldon and District Winter League when they handed out a 9-0 whitewash to the Stechford Social. A 6-3 win over Saltley Amateur Gardeners and a 180 from Andy Hutchings saw Highwood move into second place in the division.

In division one Sheldon Heath Dukes also made it nine wins in as many outings with a 5-4 victory over the Punchbowl. Mick Hicks had a 160 break for the Dukes and M.Turner a ten darts leg for the Punchbowl. After leading 4-0 Solihull Borough Whingers lost 5-4 to the Dovecote, David Sutton hitting three tons in the last match to secure his teams win.

Despite a 150 finish by P.Collins and a 160 break from P.Brennan, Old Bill and Bull lost their division two encounter with Millhouse 5-4. A 180 from J.Tooth (Yardley Ex Colts) was not enough to stop table toppers British Telecom Club winning 6-3. In the bottom of the table clash between Co op Arrows and Small Heath Gardeners, the latter won 6-3 to leave their opponents still without a win so far.

----------------------------------

In the Small Heath Winter League’s Knockout Cup first round Custard House ‘A’ got the better of their ‘B’ side with a close 5-4 win. Biggest winners were Saltley Flights who won 8-1 against Ward End Ex Service Club. Sheldon Heath Flights beat Montgomery’s 6-3 and Black Horse, with a 5-4 result took out the Red Devils.
