160 breaks from R.Mann and A.Kennard helped Village Stump to a shock 6-3 away win over Hobsons Choice in the second round of the Harborne 401 Summer League’s Knockout Cup. Hillyfields, with an 8-1 result cruised through against Highlander Ladies. Midland Red proved to be too good for Stores and ran out 7-2 winners while Stonehouse were unlucky to go down by the odd game to Ladywood. Other teams to win through to round three are Stonehouse Flights, Raven and Highlander.

On the league front Raven played a rearranged fixture against the Highlander and despite a 180 from their opponents D.Marshall, ran out 6-3 winners.

In the Minworth Social Individual League Richie Shenton has taken over pole position as a result of his 2-1 success against Scott Mitton, who hit two maximums against him, and his 3-0 win over Tony Pedley. Shenton now has a total of 100 points, three more than his nearest rival and reigning champion Dave Shorthouse who this week beat Barry Stephens 2-1 and in the process hit a variety of scores, 180,2x140,137,135,101 and a 100. Shorthouse who has completed 24 fixtures has the advantage of a game in hand on Shenton.

It’s getting tight at the top of the Small Heath Summer League with no fewer than three teams on fourteen points. Former leaders Black Horse lost an important home game against Sheldon Heath Flights by 6-3 and as a result have dropped to third place. A 7-2 win at Custard House ‘A’ puts Saltley Flights in top position but only on average as both Sheldon Heath Flights and Black Horse are both on the same 14 points.

The Black Horse, Green Lane, Small Heath are organising a 24 hours darts marathon. The event will take place on the 13th and 14th of October with all monies raised going to Debra and the Childrens Hospital.

The final was a close affair going the full three legs distance with Mick Rose and Bill Bonas (Tascos ‘B’) just getting the 2-1 edge over rivals Paul James and Brian Andrews from the Greenlands.

During the course of the evening Dingle’s Craig Mucklow hit two maximums.
