The 2018 World Grand Prix gets underway from the CityWest Hotel Dublin tonight. John Henderson will take on defending champion Daryl Gurney in his opening match whilst Welshman Jonny Clayton takes on Champions League winner Gary Anderson.
Henderson made a sparkling run to the semi-final of last year’s event, which included knocking out World number one Michael van Gerwen in the opening round before losing to eventual champion Daryl Gurney in the semi-finals.
Hendo will look to avenge his semi-final defeat as he takes on the Northern Irishman in the fifth fixture of tonight’s opening session.
Jonny Clayton will face Two-time World Champion Gary Anderson, who is targeting his fifth televised title of 2018, in his first round match.
A successful 12 months for the Ferret sees him make his debut in the World Grand Prix this year after winning the 2018 Austrian Darts Open and reaching the final of 2017 Player’s Championships finals.
Michael van Gerwen will begin his tournament with a fixture against debutant Steve Lennon whilst fellow Dutchman Raymond van Barneveld faces an in-form Ricky Evans. Recent Player Championship 19 winner Max Hopp will face Dave Chisnall who himself is looking to bounce back from a disappointing showing at the Champions League of Darts.
The unique Double-in tournament starts this evening at 7pm, live on Sky Sports in the UK and Worldwide through the PDC’s international broadcast partners and PDCTV.
