Team Wales at WDDA Winmau World Cup Darts

Team Wales proudly represented their country at the inaugural WDDA World Cup Darts - held in Oostende across 22nd-24th February. Wales' four representatives (Ricky Chilton, Shane Harvard, Michael Davies and Michelle Gabica) topped their group in the team events before making a sensational run to the final. En route to facing England A in the final, they brushed aside Europe 9-1 in the quarter-finals before toppling Netherlands by the same score in the semi-finals. In a tight final the Welsh once again played extremely well, but fell to a narrow 9-7 defeat - finishing as runners-up. Ricky faced former back-to-back WDDA Winmau World Master winner, Vince D'hondt in the wheelchair final. It what was a thrilling end to the competition the Belgian D'hondt picked up a 4-1 win. Michelle Gabica also entered the Wheelchair category but was unfortunately defeated in the first round. There were runs to the last 16 for both Michael Davies and Shane Harvard who entered into the standing category. Wales Team Manager Sarah Smale was also honoured with a life time achievement award for her work with the British Darts Disability Association (BDDA).
