Article: Taylor Bullseye Hailed

Taylor Bullseye Hailed

PHIL TAYLOR^S winning bullseye at the Stan James World Matchplay has been hailed as ^the greatest dart ever thrown^.

Taylor produced a remarkable 132 finish to seal victory in Blackpool last Saturday, hitting an outer bull and then treble 19 to leave the bullseye.

However, his first dart was blocking the bull, leaving Taylor needing to move to his right before producing an amazing shot to seal victory over James Wade.

Sky Sports commentator Sid Waddell has now described the dart as the best he has seen in over 30 years involved in the sport.

"The dart and flight in the 25 was obscuring almost the entire bull," Waddell told The Sun.

"Phil moved about four foot to his right to get an angle and then produced a sensational dart to win the match.

"It was the greatest dart ever thrown. My co-commentator Dave Lanning and I have been working on darts for 71 years between us and we^ve both never seen anything better.

"Some might have called it showmanship. I called it pure genius."

Lanning, who was commentating with Waddell at the culmination of the final, added: "That really was quite the most remarkable finish.

"There was no way that Taylor could hit the bull, it was blocked but somehow or other he moved two yards to the right and got it. He is a phenomenon."
