McCoys premier league darts 2014 preview

Year on year the premier league darts keeps getting better and better, not only has the players on show improved and the overall quality but more and more people are flocking in their thousands every week when the darts comes to their city.

The darts crowd is one of the most passionate and lively of any sport and next year should be no different, stating in February the Premier League will go through to May and culminates with the play offs in London on the 16th.

The calendar for this year sees the a new venue announced in the new Leeds arena, this has shocked many as although Leeds is set to sell out and sport fans from that part of the world are undoubtedly some of the most passionate about it does have a close proximity to Sheffield. The organisers of the Sheffield arena have expressed concern in the past about the impact a Leeds arena would have on attendances at their own but while that may affect pop and rock concerts its unlikely to effect the darts, which boasted its biggest crowds ever in the 2013 league schedule.

Venues aside the action itself is set to be electric, last year’s champion Michael Van Gerwin will be looking to hold onto his crown while the most successful player to ever grace the game Phil Taylor will want revenge after letting it slip from his grasp last year. Van Gerwin give the old guard a master class in last years final and it made for some of the most entertaining darts ever to grace our tv screens, sky sports will of course be showing all the action once again this year. It will be a big ask for Taylor who despite keeping up his great form and still showing great talent young gun and crowd favorite Van Gerwin looks unstoppable as he goes from strength to strength. Despite last years victory surprisingly the bookies still favors Taylor, www.betfair.com have Taylor as the outright favorite with Van Gerwn not too far behind.

The longest odds to be had are on outsiders Mervin King, John Painter and Justin Pipe who is making his premier league debut. Raymond Van Barneveld will also be looking for a renaissance of sorts as he slowly seems to be getting the form back which saw him win many trophy’s in his glory years not too far back. One thing we can be sure of is that the entertainment value will be top notch, roll on May!
