Ladders on Tour Report
I had drawn Gary Welding in the first round and was looking forward to playing the game as I have been on great form leading up to the first event of the year.
I took the first leg despite having a very inexperienced person marking the board making more mistakes than anyone I have seen. Anyway a change of markers followed by a change of luck and Gary was leading 4-1. I then started firing on all cylinders hitting good scores and checking important finishes of 102 and 91 and levelled the game at 4-4. Gary took the 9th leg and the 10th after a missed shot at double top gave him a second opportunity and gave Gary the game 6-4.
I was pleased with my performance but a little unhappy with my finishing in the final leg. Gary continued to play well after this game and eventually lost in the last 16 after taking Wes Newton out in the last 32.
Disappointingly the whole rest of the Yorkshire Mafia also went out in the first round – surely this has never happened before?
Sunday 30th January – German Players Championship (Players Championship 2).
I the first round I had drawn Mick Todd who is a new PDPA member and a very talented player indeed.
The first 2 legs were won by Mick and I raised my game to go into a 4-2 lead. However 3 missed darts at my favourite double top let him in and the game swung his way and he went into a 5-3 lead. The next 2 legs were started with 180’s but unfortunately for me Mick hit a great bull finish in leg 10 to wrap the match up 6-4 with me sitting on a 2 dart finish.
I was a bit angry with myself for not taking the opportunity to move into a 4-2 lead in the 6th leg but overall I was very happy with my game.
Chris Thompson was the only winner of the first round for the Yorkshire Mafia so overall it was a disappointing weekend for us all regarding results. However, if our performances stay the same there is most definitely results around the corner!
Onward to Derby in February where our season starts!
