JAMES “JAMMIE DODGER” WILSON WALTZES OFF WITH FIRST BDO EVENTS TOP TITLE

Huddersfield’s and Red Dragons James ‘Jamie Dodger’ Wilson was crowned the first BDO Events Daily Mirror World Trophy winner on Sunday Night when he waltzed away from the Blackpool Tower Ballroom with the title.

The New Champion beat Ross ‘The Boss’ Montgomery 13-11 to win the illustrious inaugural title. James had made some heavy weather of the last few legs as The Recently crowned Dutch Open Champion Ross The Boss smashed his way right back into the match with some superb pressure darts, but it was James Wilson who collapsed to the floor in elation when his winning double went in, but he had enough left in the tank to get up and punch his fists in triumph before the packed crowds.

James said: ”To win this, the first ever World Trophy, you would not believe what this means to me as I came here this weekend having had a few up and down games, but I continued to fight back and, now to be The Champion, feels absolutely amazing.”

Anastasia Dobromyslova beat Bolton’s 2014 BDO Lakeside World Champion Lisa Ashton 9-7 to in a sudden play off.

The final followed six days of action at the tower and the trophy is the first in a long series of new events organised by BDO Events, the commercial partner of the BDO.

Stephen Holland, BDO Events director, said: "We have been so pleased with the response to this, our first competition. The crowds have been amazing we want to inject new blood into the game at grass roots level so it was nice to see some younger players taking part. It’s an exciting time for darts.”
