"Elvidge Leaves Rice Boiling After Coastal Comeback"
Defending Champion, Steve Rice, took the lead on three occasions with legs of 15, 180 for 15 and 17 darts only to see Elvidge reply to each of those legs with 14, 20 and 22 dart legs. With Rice having the off in the decider but failing to hit a treble 20 in his first three visits to the board Elvidge stepped up and took the decider in 18 to win 4-3 and to inflict Rices first defeat in the event which is organised in association with Streamline Taxis of York and Red Dragon Darts.
The Semi-finals saw Bridlingtons Rice defeat Steve Vine (York) 3-0 whilst Elvidge (14-15) defeated Andy Walshaw (Catterick) 3-2.
The 1/4 Final results, where all eight players now qualify for the Grand Finals at Huntington WMC in York on 25th January 2014, are: Graham Elvidge (Scarborough) 3 Richard Heathcote (Bridlington) 1 (18), Bill Pearson (Catterick) 0 Andy Walshaw (Catterick) 3 (18-21), Richard Webster (Driffield) 0 Steve Rice (Bridlington) 3 (18, 2 x 15), Steve Vine (York) 3 Kevin Samuels (Hunmanby) 0.
Other legs of note from the earlier rounds came from Samuels (15-16,), Rice (20-16), Vine (15), Elvidge (14-17) and Heathcote (18).
High checkouts were hit by Samuels (100), Webster & Bill Pearson (Catterick) both 104, Heathcote (106) with two ton plus finishes of 126 and 128 from Bridlingtons Ken Norman.
Cattericks Bill Pearson hit 3 x 180^s with further maximums from Norman, Oliver Mitchell< Samuels, Vine, Elvidge and Andy Wheeler.
Elvidge made it a double on the day when partnering YDP^s Neil Hart to win the Blind Pairs. The pair finished legs of 12, 14 and 2 x 15 on their way to victory. Runners-up were Kevin Samuels/Andy Walshaw with Mark Greenley/Andy Agars and Richard Webster/Ken Norton beaten Semi-finalists.
Stage 5 of The YDP Masters Darts Open is next Saturday, 23rd November 2013, at Thurnscoe WMC, Rotherham S63 0QJ. Players must register by 12.30pm for a 1pm start.
