Darts: Widnes & District League on target with £950 in charity donations
THE enforced absence of a charity summer league from this year’s calendar didn’t stop Widnes & District Darts League from helping out good causes.
The league has presented Halton Haven Hospice with £700.
It also donated £250 towards the running costs of a fortnightly disco at the RAOB Club for people with learning disabilities and other difficulties.
League secretary Mark Harrison said: "If there is time to run a summer league between the end of one winter league and the next, we have a small competition with all monies raised passed onto a local charity.
"Unfortunately, this year, we decided there was not enough time.
"However, in the previous couple of years we have run a summer league with one in particular being sponsored by Ray Booth in memory of Phil McGuinness.
"Phil was a Mill Brow player and cared for by Halton Haven Hospice, which is why the charity was chosen."
