York^s Richie Corner won the first qualifying stage of the 2014 YDP Masters Darts Open with a polished performance defeating home towns Phil Downsworth 4-2 in the final with legs of 18-21-21-19.

The event which see^s York Darts Promotions hosting eight qualifying stages across Yorkshire is organised in association with Red Dragon Darts and Streamline Taxis of York and has all 1/4 Finalists at each stage qualiftying for the Grand Finals which are held at Huntington WMC in York on Saturday 25th January 2014. Downsworth (19) won 3-1 in the other semi-final over Steve Brookes (Hornsea) and a 180 for 17 gave him victory over Bridlingtons Andy Senior in the quarter^s plus winning legs of 16 and 17 saw him take out York^s Taz Richardson 3-0. Other qualifiers were Neil Hart (York) and Barry Balaban (Bridlington).

Earlier rounds saw Hart closing legs in 18-20-17 darts then a 180 for 18 and 17 showing some decent form. Brookes hit 2 x 17^s. The defending champion Steve Rice won in 17 and 18 before going out to Balaban (17) 3-2 in the last 16 despite winning legs of 18 and 17.

The YDP Blind Pairs Darts Open held at Clarence WMC in York.

This event was added to the YDP Diary during the break between seasons in SR Washers York Open Darts League and attracted 46 entrants which was very pleasing to see. The event pitches players of all standards together, who then go into a blind draw to pair up and cant quite often add some interesting pairings. However on this occasion there were no pair who you would predict would come through and win the event which made it that much more open. Luke Quantock & Neil Hart ended up winners beating Darren Johnson & Paul Saville 3-0 in the final. Hart had hit 5 x 180^s during the night adding a 104 finish in the first round whilst Quantocks first throw of the event saw him hitting a 180.

The beaten semi-finalists were Taz Richardson (180 score) & Adam Thompson who went down 2-1 to Quantock/Hart and Dave Lord & Rob Sargent who lost 2-0 to Johnson/Saville. Johnson with a 177 score and 105 finish with Saville produced a 24 dart leg but the fastest game of the night was a 22 dart 701 from Robbie Carr & Rich Pike.

Sargent hit a 110 finish which was closely followed with a 109 finish from Mark Gale who also included a 180 score and Thompson had a bull finish.

Stage 2 of The 2014 YDP Masters Darts Open held at Carlton Social Club, Main Street Carlton WF3 3RW.

A dissapointingly low attendance at Carlton WMC, for Stage 2 of the 2014 YDP Masters made qualification for Grand Finals so much easier. However the standard of play from Barnsley^s Alan Priestly didn^t dissapoint as he won through his rounds with 180 for 16-18 and 20 which was followed by a further 180 in the 1/4 Finals and then 17 and 21 to defeat Adam Tooley (Rothwell) 3-0 in the semi^s before whitewashing Dean Conley with legs of 14 and 16 darts adding a further 180 in his 4-0 victory. Russ Johnson hit a 180 in his 3-2 semi-final defeat against Conley. Other Grand Final Qualifiers were Andy Jones, Carl Hesslegrave both from Barnsley, Wetherby^s Brian Metcalfe and Ferrybridges Colin Hendry who had 2 x 20 and 21 legs in the first round and a 180 score.
