Darts News – A West Midlands Round Up

After having their away fixture against Lincolnshire postponed last month in the premier division of the UKDA National League, Warwickshire will return to action again this coming weekend when they will play hosts to Dorset at the Hen Lane Social Club, Beacon Road, Coventry, CV6 4D. Going into the game Warwickshire are lying seventh in the table with forty-five points with a game in hand on all six teams above them, Dorset are bottom of the division with twenty-five points and have played the same two fixtures as their hosts.

West Midlands are riding high in the Andy Wheeler Fisheries Championship Division, top of the table with seventy-one points and a three point’s lead over second placed Middlesex. This coming weekend they wil trvel to take on Cambridgeshire at the GER Sports and Social Club, Robingoodfellows Lane, March, PE15 8HS. Cambridgeshire are some sixteen points short of the guests and are currently placed fifth.

In the L-Style Division One, Black Country will make a trip to the north-west where at the Netherton Sports and Social Club, 16 Fleetwoods Lane, Bootle, Merseyside, L30 0QG, they will take on the local county Merseyside. The home side have only played two games so far and are placed ninth with forty-one points, while Black Country are fourth with sixty-five points, ten fewer than leaders Somerset.

The Sheldon and District Winter League are up to week seven of their new season and in the premier league the week’s results produced no changes in the top five places in the table with Sheldon Marlborough Arrows continuing to lead the field following their 7-2 home win over Mackdown Sports and Social Club whose Ashley Kavanagh notched a maximum. Second placed Highwood had a 6-3 home win over fifth placed RAFA to keep within two points of the leaders with a game in hand, the top two teams having won all of their games so far. Third in the division Langley Arrows had a bye and have only played three games so far while fourth in the division Dog Inn Nomads, after having the fixture with Smithswood Social Club postponed have also only played three games, the two teams are both six points short of the leaders but with two games in hand.

As a result of RAFA Arrows losing 6-3 at home against Sheldon Marlborough Ridge in division one, they have been ousted from their number one spot and dropped to fourth in the division on eight points, the same number as new leaders Banbury Club who with a maximum from Kristian Green won 7-2 at home against Yardley Ex Colts. In addition to Banbury and RAFA Arrows having eight points so do Trident Spears, Sheldon Marlborough Ridge, and Raven. Trident Spears won 7-2 at home over Lyndon Old Boys and Raven won 5-4 at Langley Arrows.

There was no change whatsoever in division two, Langley Pints holding on to pole position with eight points after their 6-3 home win over Hunters Moon. Langley Pints may be top of the division but only on average as second placed CBMC-A have played one game fewer than them, they have the same eight points and are the only team in the division with a 100% win record after their latest 7-2 win at Digby. Third in the division Hollywood Social Club with a 180 from their Tony Colley won 8-1 at home over Trident Flights to put them on the same eight points as the two teams above them.

Only Northfield have an undefeated record in the Kings Norton League, their latest fixture seeing them hand out a 7-0 thrashing to their hosts Pavillions to keep them four points ahead of second placed Greenlands who had a narrow 4-3 win at Cock Inn and although they are four points off the top they do have a game in hand. Third placed Bourneville won their home tie with Kings Norton Flights 4-3, they are on eight points, six short of Northfield but have two games in hand.

Northfield’s J.Evitts had a 160 break in his teams win at Pavillions.

Northfield are the only team with a 100% win record in the league but at the other end of the table there are two teams, Pavillions and Cavalier who are still seeking their first win of the season.

The two local rivals Copper Fox ‘R’ and Copper Fox ‘M’, hold on to their respective top and second places in the Harborne and District League, the former winning 8-1 at home over Cock Inn and the latter having a 6-3 win at Weoley Castle WMC to see the WMC drop four places to seventh. In addition to the top two having won all of their games so have Northfield Conservative Club, Smethwick Cricket Club, Kings Norton Ex Serviceman’s Club and Thimble Mill who have only played two games. Northfield Conservative Club had a 7-2 home win over Stag and Three Horseshoes, Smethwick Cricket Club won 5-4 at Windsor Complex, Kings Norton Ex Serviceman’s Club won 7-2 at Bourneville and Thimble Mill were 8-1 winners at Lion Bar.

There were five maximums recorded this week, C.Fowler (Copper Fox ‘M’) getting two of them while A.Beagrie (Thimble Mill), A.Hykin (Copper Fox ‘R’) and L.Fox (Cock Inn) all had one.

It’s as-you-were for the top three teams in division one of the Sutton and District League with leaders Highcroft Hotdogs adding a 7-2 win at Drakes Drum to keep them in pole position with a two points advantage over second and third placed Nomads @ Hollyfields and Old Horns Lions. With six wins in as many games the Hotdogs are the only team in the top division to have won all of their games, Nomads and Old Horns making it five wins in six games when in turn they both won 5-4 at home over St Thomas Lions and Erdington Arrows.

In division two, Great Barr Social suffered a somewhat surprising 6-3 defeat away to Sutton Sports who are still six places below them in the table and have four fewer points. This was Great Barr’s first defeat in six games and sees them drop from top to third place, two points adrift of the new leaders Rise Club who made it six straight wins when they won 8-1 away to Oscott Social Club. Second in the division, Deer’s Leap are just the one leg of average better off than Great Barr Social after they won their home game against Hollyfields 8-1.

Justin Bowen (Rise Club) scored the only maximum of the week.

With Stirchley United holding Northfield Darts Club to a 4-4 draw in division one of the South West Birmingham Clubs League it has cost the Darts Club the leadership of the division and they drop to second place on three points, one fewer than new leaders Northfield Conservative Club ‘B’ who had a 5-3 win at Kings Norton Ex Serviceman’s Club. With Quarry Lane Club having a bye this week they drop from third to fifth but with a game in hand on all four teams above them.

S Herculkes (Stirchley United) hit the only maximum in the league this week.

A 5-3 defeat at E57 has seen Bartley Green FC go from top to fourth in division two with West Heath CEM moving up one place to take over the number one position after they won 7-1 at Longbridge Supremes. Second and third placed Kings Norton Flights and E57 are just one point behind the leaders Kings Norton Flights having a 5-3 win at Northfield Conservative Club ‘A’.

Quarry Bank Liberal Club took their undefeated run in the Sedgley and Gornal Tuesday Night League to twelve games when they won 8-1 playimg away against bottom of the table Meadow Lark. The win keeps intact the leaders two points advantage over Netherton Sports and Social Club who won 5-4 at Jolly Crispin. After the top two come three teams all on twenty points, four short of the leaders, and they are Gornal British Legion, Red Cow ‘1’ and Parkes Hall.

An 8-1 win at Artisian Micro Bar has seen Bostin Darts ‘B’ extend their unbeaten run in the Jack Edwards Thursday Night League to six games and keeps intact their two points lead on second placed Tividale Sports who beat Island Inn 7-2. Third, fourth and fifth placed Wonder, Double Tops Micro Bar and Whiteheath Tavern are all eight points and although four off the top they all have a game in hand.

Leaders of the Brierley Hill Monday Night League, High Acres made it ten wins in eleven games when they won their home game with Dudley Sports ‘A’ 6-3, the win giving them a two points lead on second placed Dudley Ex Serviceman’s Club ‘A’ who also had a 6-3 win in their away game against Starving Rascal. Third in the league Raven are also only two points off the top after they won 5-4 at Wombourne Club while fourth placed Bridge, like the two teams above them are two points behind High Acres but they have a game in hand, their latest fixture seeing them win 6-3 at home against Rose and Crown ‘A’.

With only four more fixtures remaining in the Rowley Monday Night League, the battle for the title is still being played out by Wonder and Bell. Wonder’s 6-3 win at Tividale FC keeps them top on average while reigning champions Bell handed out a 9-0 whitewash to their visitors Vine to leave them level on fifty-eight points with Wonder but still trailing by fourteen legs of average.

Bell’s B.Gillies was in top form this week not only recording a maximumm break of 170 but also chalking up the highest score of 180. R.Lenton (Rowley Labour Club) also hit a maximum while S.Slim (Plough and Harrow) had a 160 break.

No change in the top two places in the singles league of the Wolverhampton Tuesday Night League with leaders Junction ‘B’ winning their home game with Ashmore 4-3 and second placed Dog and Partridge ‘B’ winning 7-0 at Wednesfield Legion to remain two points behind Junction ‘B’.

Golden Lion ‘A’ lead the way in the doubles league, their latest 2-1 home win over Gilbert’s Bar ‘A’ keeping them two points to the good on Junction ‘B’, Dog and Partridge ‘B’ and New Gate inn. Junction ‘B’ beat Ashmore 2-1, Dog and Partridge ‘B’ had a similar 2-1 win at Wednesfield Legion and New Gate Inn made it 2-1 wins for all of the top four teams when they won at Pheasant.
