
Darts News – A West Midlands Round Up
This coming weekend Warwickshire County Darts Organisation will be playing their second of a scheduled eleven fixtures in the Cosmo Darts Premier Division of the UKDA National League. Following their tremendous start to the season where they beat Cornwall 25-11 to go top of the table they will now take on last season’s third placed finishers Lancashire. Warwickshire will have home advantage playing at the Hen Lane Social Club, Beacon Road, Coventry. CV6 4DS and a win would surely consolidate their number one position.

In the Andy Wheeler Fisheries Championship Division West Midlands will be travelling to take on Hampshire this coming weekend. The opening day fixtures saw West Midlands win 20-16 at home against Kent while their hosts suffered a 19-17 defeat at Middlesex.

Black Country began their new season in the L-Style Division One with a 19-17 home win over Derbyshire to put them fifth in the table with twenty-two points, three points short of leaders Merseyside. Game number two for the Black Country is an away tie against Worcestershire, who in their opening fixture they lost 20-16 playing away against Leicestershire.

The South West Birmingham Clubs League staged the semi-finals of their Bob Price Cup in which current division one leaders Northfield Darts Club beat next to bottom of the same division Kings Norton Ex Serviceman’s Club 5-2. Joining Northfield Darts Club in the final will be Stirchley United who are placed second in division one, they won 6-1 against Bartley Green FC who are fourth in division two.
There was one rearranged division two fixture played which saw E57 gain a narrow 4-3 home win over Perfection, the result having no bearing on either’s position in the league table.

The outstanding clash between the top two teams Raven Arrows and Langley Arrows in group one of the Sheldon and District Summer League was played off. Going into the rearranged fixture Raven Arrows topped the table with fifteen points with Langley Arrows placed second on the same fifteen points but trailing slightly on average, the game was going to be the decider on who would win the title. Despite home advantage Raven Arrows finished on the wrong side of the 5-2 result to see Langley Arrows leap-frog them to clinch the title with seventeen points, Raven Arrows finishing two points behind them in the runners-up spot.
There was a maximum for each team, Jake Liggins for Raven Arrows and Richard Mills for Langley Arrows.

Although Nomads @ Hollyfields chalked up a 7-2 win away to Erdington Arrows, it was not enough for them to hold on to pole position in division one of the Four Oaks and District League as they fell to second place behind new leaders Highcroft Hotdogs whose 8-1 win at Charley’s Flights put them on the same four points as Nomads @ Hollyfields but with a slender one leg of average advantage. Old Horns Lions and Old Oscott Arrows are the only other two teams to have won their opening two fixtures. Old Horns Lions are third two legs of average behind the leaders after they won their home game with Rosey Mac’s 8-1, two further legs of average short are fourth placed Old Oscott Arrows who had a 6-3 home win over St Thomas Lions.
S.Robinson (Nomads @ Hollyfields) recorded a 160 break.
Deer’s Leap lost their number one spot in division two following their close 5-4 home win over Oscott Social Club, they drop to third place with Pint Pot Flights replacing them at the top of the division after handing out a 9-0 whitewash to their hosts St Thomas Arrows giving them a narrow one leg of average lead over Great Barr Social who won 8-1 playing away against bottom of the division Minworth Bulls. After the top three teams there are another three teams that have remained undefeated, Hollyfields, Plough and Arrows and Rise Club. Hollyfields won 6-3 at home against Beggars Bus, Plough and Arrows won by the same 6-3 margin at Misfits @ Holly Lane Sports and Social Club and Rise Club had a 5-4 home victory over Sutton Sharks.

The Netherton Thursday Night 501 League had the finals of their doubles knockout on the fixture card and in the semi-finals Nick Fullwell and Jeff Batham had a a straight 3-0 win over Jamie Brookes and Carl Hadlington despite Brookes hitting a maximum. Meeting Fullwell and Batham in the final were Connor Pickett and Andy Floyd who had a bye in the semis as Phil Tonks and Mark Rollinson were unable to turn-
up. Once again Nick Fullwell and Jeff batham chalked up a straight 3-0 victory to retain the tile they would last season.

With five more fixtures to play in the Hilltop Friendly Tuesday Night League the title is still up for grabs for both Allen’s Bar and Vine ‘A’ as they are both on forty-six points at the top of the table with only three legs of average separating them, Allen’s Bar held on to pole position as they handed out a 7-0 whitewash to their visitors Ivy Bush while Vine ‘A’ kept in touch with the leaders as they were awarded a 7-0 win over Royal Yeomanry who have dropped out of the league. After the top two teams there is a gap of six points to third placed Cottage Spring who held on to their third place although they lost 4-3 at Three Horseshoes. With Cottage Spring losing fourth in the league Wonder ‘B’ took full advantage to draw level on forty points with them as they won 6-1 at Tamebridge to, at the same time hold on to the six points lead on fifth in the table Sandwell who won also won 6-1 playing at home against Vine ‘B’.

With four of the top five teams in the Stourbridge and District Monday Night League having played two thirds of their fixtures the title could still easily go to any of the top three teams. Current leaders Gornal British Legion had a 6-1 home win over Queens Head with G.Marson having a 148 break and S.Johnson a 157 finish to put them top on average from second placed Old Liberal Club who went one better with a 7-0 win at Glassworks to leave them on the same fifty points as Gornal Labour Club and with a game in hand. Third in the league Ten Arches ‘A’ are still in the frame with forty-eight points after their most recent 6-1 home win over Seven Stars.

Wombourne Club remain top of the Brierley Hill Monday Night League after winning 7-2 at Rose and Crown (Worsdsley), the win keeping intact their undefeated run of four games and gives them an average lead over the chasing three teams, High Acres, Bridge and Lamp Tavern. High Acres were held to a close 5-4 win at Mount Pleasant while the Bridge were clear-cut winners at Britannia, beating their hosts 9-0. Lamp Tavern had a home tie with Dudley Sports ‘A’ which they won 7-2, all the top four teams are on eight points from four games.

It certainly wasn’t unlucky thirteen for Chop House in the Stourbridge and District Wednesday Night League as they extended their unbeaten run to thirteen games with a 6-1 win away to Wheatsheaf to keep them two points to the good on second placed Stourbridge FC ‘A’ who were also 6-1 winners away to Plough ‘A’. Third and fourth placed Hollybush and Old Liberal Club ‘A’ are both on twenty points, six off the top after the former won 5-2 at Raven and the latter won by the same 5-2 margin at home against Plough ‘B’.

Five teams have extended their undefeated run to four games in the Sedgley and Gornal Tuesday Night League, an 8-1 home win over Wheatsheaf sees Quarry Bank Liberal Club top of the table with a two legs of average lead on second placed Gornal British Legion who also had an 8-1 win at Jolly Crispin. The following three teams Parkes Hall, Bulls Head and Netherton Sports and Social Club all had narrow 5-4 wins in turn against Cabin ‘2’, Red Cow ‘1’ and Cabin ‘1’ to keep their winning run going.

There may well be eight more games remaining for the majority of teams in the Rowley Monday Night League but the title will go to one of the current top two teams Wonder or Bell. Wonder hold on to pole position with a 5-4 win at Rowley Bar and Grill while second placed and reigning champions Bell reduced the average arrears with an 8-1 win at home over Huntingtree, both of the top two teams are on fifty points. After the top two there is a gap of twelve points to third placed Tividale FC who won 6-1 at home against Loyal Lodge, they have a game in hand on the two teams above them but the title looks to be well out of their reach.
There were two maximums in the league this week and they came from L.Bunce (Rowley Bar and Grill) and T.Brennan (Bell) while three players recorded a 160 break, N.Taylor (Snooks), J.Tart (Tividale FC) and A.Spittle (Wonder).

Leaders of the Black Country Men’s Super League Allen’s Bar ‘A’, had a vital 3-2 home win over third in the league Dudley Ex Serviceman’s Club this week to take their total points to sixty-six, six more than second placed Quarry Bank Liberal Club who were also 3-2 winners at home against Allen’s Bar ‘C’. Dudley Ex Serviceman’s Club are fifteen points off the top and nine short of second placed Quarry Bank Liberal Club, however they do have two games in hand on both of the two teams above them and could well reduce those arrears.

The top two players in the West Midlands Ladies Super League didn’t play this week and as a result former leader Evonne Taylor drops to fourth place and Kath Jenkins who was second drops to fifth. Taking over in pole position is Jacqueline Maiden who won 3-0 against Eloise Milburn and 3-1 against Tara Fullwood to give her twenty points from her five games. Gemma Barrett moves up into second place after she beat Laura Herrington 3-1 and Kelly Aston 3-2 to put her on the same twenty points as Maiden but from six games. There is then a gap of three points to third in the league Jade Wellings who after beating Jacqui Simmons 3-2 and losing 3-0 to Eloise Milburn is on seventeen points from six games.

The top two teams in the West Midlands Men’s Super League squared up to each other in the latest round of fixtures, leaders Staffordshire Know winning 3-2 against Dog and Partridge to hold on to the top spot with eighty-five points while Dog and Partridge slip to third place with eighty-two points. Taking over in second place is Kings Head, their 5-0 home win over Gilbert’s Bar ‘A’ taking them up to the same eighty-five points as leaders Staffordshire Knot.

Jason Lowe’s first season in the Amblecote RBL Premier League is proving very successful as he added a 7-0 win over Chris Cox and 6-1 win against Pete Illic to his tally to give him 376 points from 56 games. Reigning champion and second placed Nick Fullwell didn’t have the same successful night as he slipped to a 5-2 defeat to Gavin Smith but recovered to win 6-1 against Ryan Green to put him on 338 points from the same 56 games. Ian Townsend remains in third place, his 335 points 41 short of Lowe and from one game more than Lowe. Townsend’s night began with a 6-1 win over Jon Underhill followed by a closer 4-3 win against Connor Whitehouse.

Scott Baker’s 7-1 win over Allan Davies in division one of the Gilbert’s Bar Monday Night Singles League has taken his points tally to 199 from 24 games, second placed Simon Mountford won 5-3 against Andrew Jervis to give him a total of 164 points from 26 games and a lead of ten over third in the division
Chris Manoila who lost ground as he went down 7-1 to Simon Pritchard leaving him 45 points short of Bake after he has played three more games than the leader.
Michael Smith at the top of division two didn’t play this week but he holds on to pole position with 213 points from 27 games. Second placed Richard Brown beat Claire Hobbs 7-1 to take his points to 162 also from 27 games. Third placed Andy Mullinder has five games in hand on the two players above him, he has 159 points but did not play this week.
Division three leader Ollt Garratt added a further 8-0 win over Gareth Walsh to his account to give him a total of 200 points from 24 games while second placed Troy Simmonds, who didn’t play this week is on 145 points from 22 games.
