City darts players have chance to play at Lakeside
ONE city darts player can win the chance to play at the legendary Lakeside venue by qualifying from a regional round of a national championship at The Staddy later this year.
The Staddiscombe-based public house will play host to the South West regional final of this season^s People^s Dart Championship on Saturday, November 21.
The event, supported by brewers John Smith^s, provides amateur club and pub players throughout the UK with the opportunity to emulate reigning People^s Darts Champion, Tim ^Teapot^ Jones and play on the BDO world darts stage in front of a packed house and TV audience of millions.
Plymouth is one of eight regional final centres for the tournament which last year attracted an entry of over 10,000 players from over 800 pubs and clubs who competed in the opening rounds.
The quarter-finals and semi-finals will take place at Lakeside during the BDO World Darts Championship on Sunday, January 11, next year.
The two finalists will face the challenge of competing in the final of the John Smith^s People^s Darts Championship on the main stage as part of the TV coverage of the BDO Professional World Darts final.
Leading professionals Tony ^Silverback^ O^Shea, Darryl ^The Dazzler^ Fitton, Ross ^The Boss^ Montgomery and Trina ^Golden Girl^ Gulliver will join the ranks of mentors who will coach the eight regional winners.
The People^s Darts Championship is open to male and female residents in Great Britain aged 18 years or over.
However, the event excludes all professional players from any darts organisations and also international and county players.
Winning the tournament earned Jones an automatic entry into three BDO tournaments this year, including the Torremolinos Open and the Winmau World Masters.
He also netted £1,000 of darts equipment for his local, The Rose & Crown, in Neath and a £15,000 windfall for his chosen charity, Arthritis Care.
