Long-serving Essex County player Alan Collins was certainly the man in form on the oche in November at The Brydens Barbados Darts Festival. The left handed Collins, a crane operator by profession, soon impressed his fellow European tourists and Bajan hosts - and all those that had arrived from the USA, Canada, Guyana, Trinidad & Tobago, St. Lucia and The Cayman Islands.
On the Friday he took the Dewars Mens Pairs with his young partner, Darren May. They had to withstand a spirited challenge from the father and son combination of Kevin and Aaron Hardy in the final.
On Saturday Collins joined forces with Norman Madhoo to capture the Harrows Mixed Nations Mens Pairs, defeating Rob Madigan from London and Bajan Mark Griffith in the final. On the same evening Collins and Madhoo were joined by Donna Mardle to make a formidable Mixed Triples team for the Mackeson sponsored event. However, in the final, they were pushed all the way by the Caribbean triple of Bajan Maureen Shepherd and Trinis Lester Legall and Vivekanand Dyal.
Collins also made it to the final in the Stag Men^s Singles but just failed to make it a clean sweep as Aaron Hardy from Austria edged him out in a tense final that went down to the deciding leg.
Wayne Mardle will again be hosting the 2012 Brydens Barbados Darts Festival which will take place from October 31 to November 9. The nine night packages start from £875 with options to stay longer.
