A Look Back In Time - Alan Towe 31.10.2001
Something had to give in the Forest of Arden Winter when the Cock and Hens and the Old Bill and Bull squared up to each other. Prior to the fixture both teams were without a win to their names, but a 6-3 scoreline was enough to give Old Bill and Bull their first points of the season. League newcomers Farringdon Social lost their opening two games 8-1, but they provided the shock of the week when they travelled to the previously undefeated Highwood and beat them 6-3, Harvester were another casualty as they also lost for the first time in the current campaign, losing 6-3 at home to Solihull Borough Flights. Reigning champions Hobs Meadow now go clear at the top beating Stechford Social 6-3, maintaining their 100% record.

Richie Shenton, reigning champion in the Minworth Social Individual League, began the new season in an unfashionable manner by losing 2-1 to Lance Thompson. Nevertheless, Shenton was quick to bounce back as with a 180 and a 13 darts leg he accounted for Derek Fardon with a 3-0 result.
A couple of new players to the league, Mark Hollyoake and Peter Allen got their season off to a good start. Hollyoake had 3-0 wins against Tony Whitehouse and Alan Mayell, while Allen beat Mick Smith and Dawn Barnes, also by 3-0.
Adrian Hammersley, Tony Whitehouse, Tom Dillon, Mick Bagley, Pat Koyce, Terry Clinton, Richie Shenton and Tony Randall all hit maximums.

After a 6-3 win over Hobsons Choice, Harborne Stores remain the only unbeaten side in the premier division of the Harborne and District Winter League. Despite a 180 from P.Watkins and a nine darts leg by S.Riddick, Bartley Green Social Club went down for the first time when they 5-4 at Ladywood Social. Punchbowl were the week’s top scores as they beat Hillyfields 9-0.
Bartley Green F.C. are the toast of the Harborne League when after two seasons in division one they, for the very first time, won a match and did they do it in style. Playing away to Stonehouse Flights, Bartley returned with a tremendous 9-0 verdict demolishing their opponents in the process.

It’s close at the top of division two with Railway and Cue Sports dead level on games played, points and average. Cue Sports won 5-3 at the Mercian while Railway had a bye. Third placed Plough and Harrow suffered a setback to their title hopes losing 5-3 at bottom of the table Red Lion ‘B’ (Wilnecote), this being Red Lion’s first win of the season.
