The fight for the Forest of Arden Winter League title is turning into quite a tussle. Leaders Red Arrows played away at the Highwood and returned with a close 5-4 victory, giving them a total of 26 points from 16 games. Second placed Hobs Meadow had a convincing 7-2 away win at the Cock and Hens, which leaves them just two ponts adrift of Arrows. However, Hobs Meadow Mixes, who were level on points with their local rivals suffered a 5-4 home defeat at the hands of the Solihull Borough Flights team. Mixes are now four points behind the leaders with one game in hand. Arrows Brian McDonald chalked up a 160 break in his team’s win.

In a rearranged Harborne and District Winter League fixture the George proved to be too strong for Hobsons Choice and ran out 7-2 winners.
Top scorers in the league’s second round of the Wadsworth Cup were Bartley Green Social Club, who had an easy 8-1 success at the Hillyfields.There was a 7-2 win for Harborne Stores at the New Inns, while the Raven beat Weoley Castle 6-3.
In the preliminary round of the Wadsworth Consolation Cup Ladywood Social recorded an impressive 7-2 win over Avenue Social, thanks to a 180 from T.Byrne. Bartley Green Social Flights and the Pheasant progressed to the next round with 6-3 wins against respective opponents Village Stump and Stonehouse Flights.

A maximum from T.Cutler helped Bartley Green Social Club to a comfortable 8-1 win over Harborne Stores in division one of the Harborne 401 Summer League. Midland Red’s J.Archer was another player to hit 180 as his side beat the Highlander 7-2, whose K.McKeown also found the three treble twenties. Kings Highway registered their first win of the campaign, a 5-4 home success over Hillyfields. Also winning 5-4 were the George at Ladywood Social. The match contained no fewer than 42 three figure scores, with I.Gethin (George) breaking with 160.
Hobsons Choice trailed 4-2 at home to the Cock Inn, but fought back to snatch a dramatic 5-4 win.

Peter Allen is the early pacesetter in the Sportsmans Rest Double Top League. With six straight wins Allen has accumulated 29 points, seven more than his nearest rival Richie Shenton, who has also won his six games, but has conceded five legs to Allen’s one.
Hitting a maximum this week were Richie Shenton, John Ainsworth, David Platt and John Morris jnr.

In a charity match at the Hillyfields, Quinton, the Ace of Clubs and Gulp took on and defeated the Harborne League 9-6. The event raised a terrific amount of £770, which will be split 50-50 between St Mary’s Hospice and the Trauma Association.
Thanks go to licencee Adam Jones and his wife Lee, plus Steve Arnold, Sue Hough, Ian Jacques, Dennis Stokes and Mick O’Sullivan. The man of the match shield went to Alan Stevens who had top scores of 100,123 and a 112 finish.
