A Look Back In Time - Alan Towe 01.05.2002

As the end of the Forest of Arden Winter League season draws ever closer the title race is changing weekly and this week is no different. Red Arrows topped the table last week after their 5-4 win at the Highwood. This week Arrows played at home against third placed Hobs Meadow Mixes and suffered a crucial 6-3 defeat. Hobs Meadow have now taken over pole position following their resounding 8-1 victory over Cocks and Hens. It could not get any closer, Hobs are level on 26 points with Arrows and lead them by just one leg of average. Mixes are only two points behind the leading duo, but have a game in hand.

Raven were top scorers in division one of the Harborne 401 Summer League travelling to Harborne Stores and returning with a 7-2 win. C.Steadman (Midland Red) notched no fewer than eight three figure scores to help his team to a close 5-4 success against Ladywood Social. Hillyfields player M.Lyden chalked up a maximum but it was not enough for his side to avoid a 5-4 defeat at the Highlander.

In division two Cock Inn cruised to a comfortable 8-1 win as they entertained Highlander Ladies, while there were 6-3 wins for both Avenue Social and Hobsons Choice against respective opponents Stonehouse Flights and the Pheasant.

There was good and bad news for Peter Allen in the Sportsmans Rest Double Top League as he beat Chris Forsyth 2-1 and then lost by the same scoreline to John Morris jnr. As a result Allen has been knocked off his number one spot and taking over is Richie Shenton, who recorded a straight 3-0 win over Ricky Lawrence to give him 35 points, one more than Allen, his nearest rival.

Dawn Barnes, the league’s only lady player hit a 180 against Chris Forsyth, unfortunately for Dawn her opponent also hit a maximum and it was he who got the 2-1 verdict. Also hitting the three treble twenties were Dave Platt (2), Trevor Frost (2), Chris Forsyth (2), John Ainsworth and Gordon Clinton.
