Warwickshire finished their BDO Inter Counties Championship season in the premier division on a high beating Lincolnshire 25-14. The men’s ‘A’ team were the only losers of the weekend, going down 4-8 with Pat Koyce their top player with a 28.66 average. The ‘B’ side’s trophy went to Scott Mitton as they raced to a comfortable 9-3 victory. The ladies ‘A’ and ‘B’ won 5-1 and 4-2 respectively, the former maintaining and unbeaten run throughout the season. Claire Barber (20.04) was the ‘B’ team’s lady of the match, but for the ‘A’ for the first time in three years, an amazing 27 fixtures, there is a name other than that of Trina Gulliver collecting the trophy. Clare Bywaters with an average of 26.99 took the award with Trina on 25.05 having to be content with second place.

In division three West Midlands entertained Breconshire. For the ladies it was the best weekend of the campaign as both finished all square at three each. For the ‘A’ Janet Hubbard (18.79) and ‘B’ Claire Downing (19.78) were the ladies of the match. There were mixed fortunes for the men as the ‘A’ won 7-5 and the ‘B’ lost by the same margin. The two top players were Nicholas Walters (29.24) and for the ‘B’ Gary Taylor (27.10). The result a 19-19 draw, which sees West Midlands finish the season second from bottom, just five points ahead of Breconshire.

Harborne Stores have taken over as leaders of the premier division in the Harborne and District Winter League. A 5-4 win in a rearranged game against previous leaders Highlander, followed by a similar result over the George has given Stores pole position. In the bottom of the table clash between Hobsons choice and Hillyfields the former emerged as 6-3 winners.
In division one Weoley Castle held on to their top spot with a 7-2 success against Highlander Ladies. New Inns, Also challenging for honours had a similar win against Bartley Green Social Flights.

Midland Red continue to lead the field in division one of the Harborne 401 Summer League after a 7-2 win against the Kings Highway. J.Leadbitter (Hillyfields) hit a maximum as his side beat Bartley Green Social Club 7-2. Despite a 180 from J.Merrick, Ladywood Social finished on the wrong side of a 6-3 result against the Raven.
A 9-0 whitewash over Stonehouse Ladies keeps Hobsons Choice unbeaten record intact in division two.

Hobs Meadow, reigning champions of the Forest of Arden Winter League, have completed their fixture card with a 7-1 win against Farringdon Social. They are currently top of the table on 32 points, two ahead of their nearest rivals Red Arrows, who beat Old Bill and Bull 8-1. However, Arrows have one more game to play against Mackadown Social and anything better than a 6-3 win will give them the title. Mackadown’s Mick McCormick and Stechford Social’s Andy Hinton, both scored maximum’s.

In division one of the South West Birmingham Clubs Summer League Stirchley United, reigning champions and for many seasons a force to be reckoned with in the league, lost their second successive match, a crunching 6-1 to Rednal Tops. Division two’s Bournbrook Arrows made it four out of four, when they recorded an excellent 4-3 win over a strong Greenlands Arrows. Andy Beagrie hit a 180 for Greenlands.

As a result of a 3-0 win over Paul Chick and a 2-1 success against Gordon Clinton, Carl Betteridge has moved into top place in the Minworth Social Individual League. Only three points adrift and with a game in hand on Betteridge, Mark Hollyoake chalked up 3-0 wins over Paul Chick and Terry Clinton. Newcomer, Lesley Newcombe made it three wins in four when she defeated Phil Jones 2-1.
Hitting 180’s were Steve Cain, Lance Thompson, Mark Hollyoake, Tony Pedley, Gary Mills, Peter Allen and Peter Guesford.

It’s close at the top of the Sportsmans Rest Double Top League with Peter Allen and David Platt locked together on 50 points each. Allen followed a 2-1 reversal at the hands of Paul Cummings, with a 3-0 success against Dave Hood, While Platt recorded a 3-0 win over Barry Stephens and a 2-1 victory against Tony Pedley. Pedley and Ricky Lawrence were the only players to register a maximum this week.
