It’s been a week of cup finals for the Forest of Arden Winter League as their season draws to a close, first the Consolation Cup, which was staged at Hobs Meadow, the venue supplying both finalists. Adding another title to their league championship win was Hobs Meadow who defeated Hobs Meadow Mixes 7-2. Hobs then went on to make it a tremendous hat trick with a 9-6 success over Silver Wings at the Harvester to clinch the Divisional Cup title.
The Shadow League Divisional Cup went to the Harvester as they defeated Stechford Social 9-6 at the Mackadown Social Club.

Black Horse followed up their curtain raising 7-2 win over Custard House ‘A’ with a similar result against Custard House ‘B’, to put them top of the Small Heath Summer League. Red Hill, the league’s bottom team, went down 7-2 at Montgomerys.
In the league’s latest draw for their Dartt’o Game the winner of the first prize of £35.00, went to ticket number 161 (serial number AH491359), £21.00, 2nd prize, ticket number 286 (serial number AH816614), £14.00, 3rd to ticket number 216 (serial number AH733530).

Queens abd White Lion are the division one winners in the second round of the Longwood Winter League Challenge Cup after defeating in turn Mercian and Red Lion ‘A’ (Wilnecote). In division two Railway and Royal Oak progress to the next round at the expense of the Wilnecote Club and Red Lion (Wilnecote).

Congratulations to Barry Cowie and Frank Keye (Fordbridge Social), who have won the Sheldon and District Doubles knockout, a title they won two years ago. In the final Barry and Frank took on Tom Kelly and Ian Spencer representing the Three Horse Shoes. Kelly and Spencer won the opening leg only to see their opponents win the second and then a superb 180 from Keye gave the Fordbridge duo the edge. They went on to win 2-1.
The league will be playing off the finals of their Punch Bowl at the Sheldon Heath Social Club tomorrow night. Taking part will be Iron Horse, Fordbridge Social, Shard End Social and Olton RBL. The finals of the Sheldon Shield will also be played tomorrow at Lea Hall RBL.

Steve Hine is the early pacestter in the Minworth Social Individual League. After eight games Hine has 37 points, two more than his nearest rivals, newcomer Tom Dillon and reigning champion Dave Shorthouse. No fewer than ten players hit maximums this week. Steve Brindley, Adrian Hammersley, Richie Shenton, Steve Hine, Darren White, John Ainsworth, Derek Mountjoy, Steve Davies, Mick Bagley hit three, two against Richie Shenton and one in his game with John Turner and Tom Dillon hit two, one in each of his games against Barry Stephens and Tony Whitehouse.

The semi finals of the Harborne and District Winter League Skipp Cup produced a scintilating game between Midland Red and the George, a 160 break from E.Simpson helping the George to a very close 8-7 verdict. C.Steadman notched a 180 for Red. The other semi was a more convincing 10-5 success forAvenue over Golden Cup.

Midland Red were in top form of the Harborne 401 Summer League as they thrashed Bartley Green F.C. 9-0, C.Steadman again hitting the headlines with a 160 break.K.Vaughan (Lickey Banker) was another player to break with 160 in his side’s 7-2 win against the Raven. 44 tons were recorded in the tie between the George and Ladywood Social with the George winning 6-3.
The local derby between Stonehouse and Stonehouse Flights in division two was a close 5-4 win for the former.

Brenda Bullock (Bournbrook Flights) played a real captains game giving her team a 4-3 win as she won the deciding encounter against Northfield Wanderers in division two of the South West Birmingham Clubs Summer League. Caledonian Corks had a surprisingly high 6-1 win over Moseley All Service, as did Tascos ‘B’ against the Brunswick in division one.
