A Look Back in Time - Alan Towe 2000-10-11

The Heartlands and KCA both began the new campaign in the Vesey Sports, Birmingham, sponsored Aston Manor League with a tremendous 8-1 victories over respective opponents Tennis Courts and Lyndhurst. For KCA T.Kelly was in top form hitting a maximum 180 and chalking up a nine darts leg. King Edward were not far behind with their 7-2 success against the Yew Tree while Queslett had a 6-3 win at home to Old Oscott. Mitre were the only team to win away as they accounted for Golden Hind with a 5-4 scoreline.

Hobs Meadow Mixes and Silver Wings continue to fly high in the Forest of Arden Winter League, both teams having won their opening three fixtures. Mixes defeated league newcomers Warwick Aero 8-1, while Silver Wings went one better by beating another new team, Poachers Pocket 9-0. The two teams are now locked together with not only the same points but also the same average.

Hobs Meadow sprung back from last weeks surprise defeat with an 8-1 win at Stechford Social, but it’s not good news for last seasons runners up, Red Arrows as they slumped to their second defeat in three games, going down 5-4 at the Harvester.

As the Harborne 401 Summer League fast draws to an end they played off their Knockout Cup final. Taking the honours with a close 5-4 result was the Midland Red. Playing against the Bartley green Social Club, Red were in top form. D.Bourne hit a maximum,140,102 plus a 101finish, A.Parvez hit no fewer than seven three figure scores, P.Brotherton and C.Steadman also notching five tons or more. For the Bartley Green Club S.Riddick scored a 180,131 and 2x100.

M.Smith (Bartley Green Social Club) started the new season in the premier divisoon the Harborne and District Winter League with a 160 break. His team went on to win 5-4 against an unlucky Raven outfit.Midland Red and Hillyfields in turn won 6-3 against Stonehouse and Ladywood Social.

In division one newly promoted Highlander kicked off their programme with a 6-3 at the New Inns. Hobsons Choice had a similar win in a cracking encounter with Golden Cup. Avenus Social were the division’s biggest winners as they defeated Stores Arrows 7-2.

In division two Highlander Ladies had a superb 7-2 victory against Stonehouse Flights. Bartley Green Social Flights won 6-3 against the Coronation Club.

Congratulations to the Custard House who with a close 5-4 scoreline won the Small Heath Summer Leagu Knockout Cup final against the Black Horse.

In the league’s Upside Down Cup final Saltley Flights had a more comfortable 7-2 win over the Bear, with G.McCormack hitting a maximum for the Saltley team.
