A Look Back In Time - Alan Towe 2.1.2002
The Forest of Arden Winter League provided quite a few shock results this week, none more surprising than the 6-3 defeat of Hobs Meadow Mixes by Stechford Social, especially as Mixes were playing at home. As West Bromwich Albion are struggling to find the net Hobs Meadow are having a similar problem scoring tons. In their latest match against Farringdon Social the team hit just four scores of a ton or over. Nevertheless, it is the final result that counts and they were the 6-3 winners.
Solihull Borough Flights romped to a 4-0 lead in their away fixture at Mackadown Social, unfortunately they were unable to push home their advantage and finally went down 5-4. Despite winning 5-4 against the Old Bill and Bull in the Presidents Cup last week, Cock and Hens are still seeking thier first league win of the campaign. Home advantage and a 160 break from Andy Hawkins was not enough as the Harvester chalked up a 7-2 victory.

The Greenlands, Longbridge was the setting for the annual Jimmy James Memorial Shield. The eventual winner of the trophy was Ian McLean who defeated Mick Rose in two straight legs in the final.
A special mention goes to nine years old Mark James, grandson of the late Jimmy James, who actually participated in this year’s competition. Mark beat last year’s semi-finalist T.Walsh 2-1 in the opening round before going out to the eventual runner up Mick Rose.
The event raised a fabulous £200, which will be donated to the Acorn Childrens Hospice, Selly Oak.
