A Look Back In Time - Alan Towe 19.09.2001

There were mixed fortunes for Dave Platt in the Sportsmans Rest Double Top League this week. Currently in second place in the table Platt first took on John Platt and chalked up an imortant 3-0 win. However he then faced Steve Hine, who is third in the league and went down 3-0. Platt is now seven points adrift of leader Richie Shenton and having played one more fixture, Hine is a further four points adrift. Derek Fardon hit a 180 against Pat Koyce, but it was all in vain as he lost in three straight legs.

Two of the leading pack in division one of the South West Birmingham Clubs Summer League met this week the match producing a total of in excess of thirty tons or over. The 6-1 verdict went in favour of Stirchley United WMC to strengthen their pole position, the losers, Newbridge Social are currently fourth. Second placed Tascos ‘B’ suffered a set back to their title hopes as they went down 4-3 at Austin Sports and Social Club.

In division three K.Ind (Bournbrook Arrows) recorded a nine darts game as his team beat Northfield Conservative Club 4-3.

Congratulations to Sheldon Heath Social Dukes, who after beating Hobs Meadow 4-3 in the semi-final of the Sheldon and District Summer League’s Mrs F. Richman Trophy went on to beat Stechford Social by the same margin in the final. Stechford had won their last four game against Iron Horse 6-1.

Even darts games stop for an England football natch. This was the case when the Ace of Clubs adn the Gulp Charity team turned up at the Cottage of Content, Bidford on Avon. England were playing Germany and the opposition stayed in to watch the game. Nevertheless, after the two teams had watched the game they decided to play a knockout but only played the first round. Despite all this the evening raised a tremendous £166 which went to the Bidford on Avon Youth Organisation.

The two top teams in division ‘A’ of the Forest of Arden Summer League had to be satisfied with 5-5 draws in their latest fixtures. Hobs Meadow played a local derby against Hobs Meadow Mixes, while Sheldon Heath Social had an away game against Red Arrows. Lesley Newcombe was on the ball for Sheldon hitting a top score of 180.

In the recent game between Hobs Meadow Mixes and Sheldon Heath Social, the 8-2 result was in favour of Sheldon not Hobs.

Nothing changes at the top of the Small Heath Summer League as leaders Sheldon Heath Flights romp to a 7-2 home win over Montgomerys and in second place Saltley Flights beat bottom team Red Hill 6-2.

----------------------------------

The Dolphin are the leaders in division one of the Longwood Winter League. A 6-2 home victory over Royal Oak (Wilnecote) makes it two wins in as many games and even at this early stage they are the only team with a 100% win record. Three Horse Shoes had a 7-1 win against Red Lion ‘A’ (Wilnecote) and are second with three points.
