Dave Shorthouse continues to stay on course for retaining his Minworth Social Individual Leage title. Following an impressive 3-0 success over Tony Pedley, in which he hit 180,2x140,2x121 and 2x100, Shorthouse went down 2-1 to Alan Mayell despite a 146 checkout in his winning leg. Nevetheless the reigning champion, with 103 points has moved into pole position after completing 26 games. Richie (The Don) Shenton is second on 100 points, but has only played 25 games.
Scoring maximums this week were Tom Dillon (who hit two), Steve Brindley, Pat Koyce, Darren White, Derek Fardon and Trevor Frost.

For the second successive week Red Arrows have been held to a 5-5 draw in division ‘A’ of the Forest of Arden Summer League. After finishing all square with the Highwood last week they had a similar result in their latest home tie against the Harvester. Sheldon Heath Social also had to content themselves with a share of the spoils in their away game at Stechford Social, not the case with Hobs Meadow as they romped to a 9-1 win at the Highwood.
In division ‘B’ A.D.Hawkins chalked up a 160 break as his team Cock and Hens accounted for Fordbridge Social with a 7-3 verdict.

Richie Shenton is setting a hot pace in the Sportsmans Rest Double Top League. Currently in pole position Shenton has 48 points from twelve fixtures, four more points than his nearest rival Lance Thompson who has played fourteen games. Shenton was certainly in top form in his encounter with Kevin Platt as he romped to a 3-0 win hitting 180,3x140 and 2x100. However, he then lost a vital game against Lance Thompson 2-1, allowing his opponent to stay in the race for the title.
Also finding the three treble twenties were John Ainsworth (2), Derek fardon, Paul Cummings, Steve Hine, Tom Dillon, Rob South and Kevin Platt. Pat Koyce produced the week’s highest finish of 138.

The Small Heath Summer League have been involved in their singles knockout. Taking the crown with a 2-0 final victory over John Varney was Alan Caddick, who recorded a 160 break in the final. Losing semi-finalists were Mark Birch and Dave Brown, with Terry Webster, Neil Parsonage, Vicky Hanlon and Kevin Maloney making their exists in the quarter finals.

There were mixed fortunes for Carol Steadman (Kings Norton RBL Flights) in division three of the South West Birmingham Clubs Summer League. In the home fixture against Bournbrook Arrows Carol took on Fred Allison, she won the opening leg, actually handing Fred the brush. But then Fred made amends by winning the next two legs to win 2-1. It would have been even more embarrassing if he had lost as his side eventually won 7-0.
In division one R.Stevens chalked up a 160 break despite his team, Brunswick losing 4-3 at home to Kings Norton RBL.
