A LOOK BACK IN TIME - ALAN TOWE 01.01.2003

The Forest of Arden Winter League certainly ended the year with a bang and lots of surprising results. Leaders, Highwood Arrows, unbeaten in their first seven outings, made it eight with a win at Farringdon Social. Bottom of the table Farringdon, without a win in eight, pushed the title chasers all the way before going down 5-4. Second placed Hobs Meadow suffered a 5-4 reversal at Sheldon Heath Social Flights and Highwood, who were level on points with Hobs also faltered, losing 6-3 in their home tie with the Glades. Glades have now taken over the second place, on fourteen points, two less than the leaders. Hobs Meadow and Highwood are in third and fourth respectively another two points behind and joining them on twelve points are Red Arrows who beat Hobs Meadow Mixes 5-4.

On the individual scene there were maximums for A.Savage (Glades) and Karl Attwood (Highwood Arrows), 160 breaks for Wayne Mathews (Hobs Meadow), Kevin Gibbs (Highwood) and M.Turner (Old Bill and Bull).  Highwood Arrow players J.Sidwell (hit 5x100,120) and K.Attwood (180) both lost in turn to D.Sleath and R.Read.

Two 3-0 wins from Andy Hanslow has seen him return to pole position in the Belgrave Social Individual League. With 51 points Hanslow is level on points with second placed Mick Smith then comes a three points gap to Colin Farrington. Last week’s leader, Mark Hollyoake, did not play any fixtures this week and as a result has slipped down to eighth position, highlighting how close the situation is at the top of the table.

A 2-1 victory from Dawn Barnes over Phil Jones has seen her move up seven places in the table to ywent seventh.

Top shots of 180 were hit by Gordon Clinton (2), Mick Chater, Martin Brown, Raj Singh, Mick Bagley, Derek Fardon, Steve Cain jnr, Terry Clinton, Darren White and Mick Smith.
