
A Look Back In Time 20.12.2006
After completing eight fixtures in the Four Oaks and District League Old Oscott WMC broke their duck this week with a resounding 8-1 home win over Hill Social. Despite their win Old Oscott WMC remain firmly rooted at the bottom of the table on two points, two adrift of their nearest rivals Anvil Nomads, who lost 6-3 at home to Old Oscott Arrows and Hill Social.
There was a top of the table clash between Sportsmans Rest and Midland red, the only teams with just one defeat each. Sportsmans, with the benefit of playing on their home board took full advanatge and went on to win 6-3 and open up a two points lead over the rest of the field, Midland Red dropping to second place.
In the second division leaders red Lion Flights romped to an 8-1 victory at the Plough, while their nearest rivals Deer’s Leap lost ground in the title race as they went down 5-4 at home to Bromford Lions. Barn Social, who beat Boldmere Sports 6-3 on their home board, are both on eight points, two behind Red Lion Flights. The Plough are now the only team in the league without a win so far.
Individual highlights were provided by M.Compton (Old Oscott Arrows) and T.Tyrie (Hardy Spicer) who both notched a maximum, while A.Stainfield (Sportsmans Rest) checked out on 161 and recorded an eight darts leg.

The George, leaders of the Harborne and District Winter League, consolidated their position with an emphatic 9-0 victory in their home tie with Quinton Members Club Flights. Hot on the heels of the George are Smethwick Labour Club, who beat Bartley Green F.C 7-2 to keep level on twelve points with the George. Another team chasing for honours is Midland Red, who won their home game with Harborne Stores 7-2.
Hillyfields and Raven were 7-2 winners against respective opponents Avenue Social and Bartley Green Social Club, while Quinton Members Club won 6-3 in their home fixture with the Stonehouse. Cock Inn lost 8-1 at Quinborne and New Inns won 5-4 at the Pheasant.
G.Wilkes (Hillyfields) was in top form hitting two maximums and A.Powell also notched one for the George.

The Pip Club League have been engaged in their Open Cup Competition. Playing at the Belgrave Club, the group one semi-finals saw the Dolphin beat White Lion and Red Lion ’A’ account for the Globe.
In group two Three Horse Shoes and the Wigginton made it to the final with victories in turn over Boot Inn and the Royal Oak (Kingsbury).
Both finals will be played off on the 12th April 2007 at the Pip Club.

The G.U.L.P. Charity League have staged their Sikie Shield Knockout Competition at the Potcheen Still. The event sponsored by Tigers representative Tony Comerford saw Brian Phipps from the Tribe take the title with a final success against Paul Webster from the Who’s.
Losing semi finalists were Colin Walsh (Beasts) and John McCaffrey (Potcheen Still).
On the league front and with only a couple of games to play Tigers are in pole position on 30 points. Bromford are currently second just two points adrift of the leaders.
