2009 Lakeside World Championship Qualifiers

Every year people get a chance to qualify for a spot in the Lakeside World Professional Championships through a playoff event, which was held today at The Spa Bridlington, in England. It^s a grueling format, requiring you to play best of three five-game sets each round, and usually having to beat about six progressively difficult opponents to advance. That could easily mean over fifty legs of 501 to make it through. Many good darters are there from around the world because the Winmau World Masters follows the next day.

The U.S. masters team was there and here is the report from the
BDO website. For the men:
-Brian Blake defeated two opponents before getting knocked out in the T16 of his group.
-Jim Widmayer beat one opponent, ending in the T32 of his group.
-Scott Wollaston defeated two opponents, ending in the T16 of his group.
-Tim O^Gorman beat his first opponent but then lost in the T16 of his group.
-Steve Brown won his first match but lost in the T16 of his group.
-Chris Linkous lost his first round match.
-The furthest American was David Schuyler, who defeated four opponents and finished in the T4 of his group, just two opponents from qualifying!

For the Women:
-Sandy Hudson lost her first round match.
-Mary Jo Chesney won her first match but then was out.
-Christine Medina defeated two opponents before crashing out.
-Stacy Bromberg was the furthest American with four wins, eventually being defeated in the quarter finals.

While none made it through, they appear to have won more than they lost against good competition. The slate is wiped clean for the next event, the Winmau World Masters. Check the BDO website over the next couple of days to see how everyone is doing. Good luck to the team.
