A letter from Winmau

Dear Red Dragon,

The Winmau World Masters never fails to amaze the millions of darts fans that tune in every year on the BBC! The standard of darts for the 36th World Masters was once again of the highest level, and the sheer volume of emails and calls we have received has shown how popular the tournament is in the darting calendar.

The World Masters has always had a reputation for producing new darts stars that go on to achieve world-wide fame on the oche. This was reflected again in the 2009 competition, where 3 out of the 4 titles were won by debut Masters victors. Our congratulations go to Jamie Lewis, Zoe Jones and Linda Ithurralde for their first Master’s titles. Martin Adams became only the 3rd man in the 36 year history of the event to win back-to-back victories (following in the steps of the legendary Eric Bristow and Bob Anderson) and our admiration and congratulations go out to him for another great comeback and another thrilling final.

The professionalism and commitment of the BDO officials and the staff at The Spa was, as ever, superb. Our thanks go to all those involved with the World Masters to ensure the tournament runs like clockwork.

In these difficult economic times, we also extend our thanks to the unwavering support of our sponsors – John Smith’s, East Riding of Yorkshire Council and jackpotjoy.com. It is thanks to companies like these (who recognise the huge potential of darts to their brand) that the prize money for this year reached record-breaking levels.

It was great to welcome a new face to the BBC commentary team this year. Rob Walker joined Bobby George, Tony Green and David Croft, and he certainly fitted in with the passionate, expert traits of his colleagues.

The staff at Winmau are amongst the most loyal and hard-working in the industry, and my sincere thanks go to them for their support. We are proud to offer the highest levels of quality and service to the millions of darts players world-wide that play with Winmau darts equipment.

A final thank you to the thousands of darts fans that descended on Bridlington for the weekend. The atmosphere was electric, and the good nature of those watching BDO darts is to be applauded and respected.
