Few stories in darts — or in sport — match the rise of Gerwyn Price. From professional rugby to Q-School to the very top of the world game, the Welshman has rewritten what's possible in a single career.
Gezzy's breakthrough came at Red Dragon's own Champion of Champions in 2015, sponsored by Worthington's — his first-ever title, and the moment the darting world realised something special was arriving. From there, The Iceman steadily turned talent into trophies, claiming his first Grand Slam of Darts in 2018 and defending it in 2019 — the start of three Grand Slam triumphs that still define his legacy.
In 2021 he lifted the biggest prize of all, defeating Gary Anderson to become PDC World Champion and climb to World No.1 — a position he would hold on three separate occasions across his 2021–2022 dominance. Seven PDC Major titles now sit on the Iceman's mantelpiece, including the 2020 World Grand Prix and two World Series Finals crowns.
Pulling on the Welsh shirt is where Gezzy's passion really shows. Alongside Jonny Clayton he's lifted the PDC World Cup of Darts twice — in 2020 and again in 2023 — and led Wales back to the final in 2025, falling only to Northern Ireland after an unforgettable run. 2024 added two more World Series crowns to the collection, with Gezzy taking the Nordic Darts Masters and the Australian Darts Masters, the latter courtesy of an 8-1 demolition of Luke Littler.
Flamboyant, fiery, and impossible to ignore, Gezzy's oche-side swagger has always split opinion — but nobody disputes the talent. A former Welsh international back-rower who chose tungsten over turf, he plays with the intensity of a man who knows exactly what he's fighting for.
"One World Championship isn't enough," Price has said — and that hunger hasn't faded.
The Iceman's story is unparalleled in world darts and may never be replicated. If there's one thing we can all learn from Gezzy's approach, it's this: believing you can win is a very good place to start. And few believe it harder than Gerwyn.
