Peter Wright has vowed to “kick everyone’s butt” in 2019 despite being sent crashing out of the William Hill World Championships in Round 2.
Snakebite went down 3-1 to Toni Alcinas at the Ally Pally on Sunday night, his second successive second round exit from the biggest event on the calendar.
But Wrighty remained defiant despite defeat, saying that the Spaniard had the luck on the day.
He said: “I felt great, better than I have done all year, but some players get lucky on the day and Toni got lucky on his day. He hit scores and that was it.
“Toni hit the right scores at the right time and took out the finishes at the right time.
“If we had played me over the Matchplay format with the legs, it would have been a different story, but that’s the way sets go.
“I didn’t score well enough early in the match and that’s why I’m out.”
The multi-coloured mohican star, born in Livingston, is adamant that he will get back to form with a bang after a difficult year.
He added: “Maybe some of the commentators are right and maybe I have been changing my darts too much, but I feel with these ones, they are the best I have held in my hand.
“I’m going to stick with them and kick everyone’s butt next year. I’m concerned. Wait until I stick with a set of darts and then they are all in trouble.
“I’ve beat Michael van Gerwen three times on TV this year. I’m not that rubbish.
“I’ve still got the confidence. Is it dented? Not at all. Watch me next year, trust me.
“I’ll just get on with the next game, that’s it. I’ve found the right set-up and that’s it, watch out everyone.”
