After narrowly losing out 6-5 to West Midlands man Scott Baker in the final of the Winmau BDO Wolverhampton Classic Singles event, the very next day Surrey’s Dave Parletti went one better to win the Winmau BDO Wolverhampton Open. n the semi-finals Parletti had a somewhat comfortable 5-1 win over Andy Hamilton then joining him in the final after winning 5-3 against Wesley Newton in the semis was Mark Layton from Wales. The final saw Parletti claim the top prize of £1,500 with a 6-3 result and runner up Layton receive £700. There was £300 for Hamilton and Newton, £150 for the losing quarter finalists, £100 for players losing in the last sixteen, £50 for players losing in the last 32 and £25 for players going out in the last 64. With the league fixtures all done and dusted the South Birmingham League have had cup finals on their agenda, the Knockout Cup final saw Coleshill Social beat Banbury Arrows 6-3 while the Jimmy Walker title went to The Gate who had a close 5-4 win over Crown Jewels. An 18-8 result against C’s Arrows gave division two champions Iron Horse the Mini League title and in the divisional cups Erdington Members Club added the division one cup title to their already won division one league title when they won 7-2 against Crown at Shard End. In the division two cup C’s Arrows got revenge for their defeat in the Mini League when they somewhat surprisingly beat Iron Horse 5-4. The Forest of Arden Summer League have also been involved in cup finals in fact four of them as they played off the Secretary’s Cup which was won 2-0 by Jake Webster over Dan Cooper. The Captains Cup title went to Nathan Wykes who had a close 2-1 success against Jason Jennings. Despite being absent for week eight of the Shirley Premier League Steve Sidwell held on to pole position with 50 points from 15 games. Phil Thomas had a somewhat mixed night as he began with a 2-2 draw with Mark Gwalchmai, beat Derek Harper 4-0 and finished with a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Lee Harris. Nevertheless Thomas joins Sidwell on 50 points but has played one game more than him. Just one point behind the leading dup on 49 points is Mark Henderson who with a 3-1 win over Karl Wilson followed by a 4-0 success against John O’Sullivan did his title hopes no harm whatsoever. The Small Heath League played off their End of Season 501 Knockout and taking the title with a final 2-0 win over N.Davis was J.Fisher. Sheldon Marlborough Flights not only lost for the first time in five games in the Camp Hill League but at the same time lost pole position to their 5-2 victors White Swan Nomads who now top the table with ten points from six games leaving Sheldon and third placed Journeys End Lions two points behind the new leaders with a game in hand. Leaders of division one in the Sutton and District Summer League The Boat had a bye in week 12 but they hang on to the number one spot with 22 points, two more than second placed Golden Hind whose 6-3 win over Oscott Social was their twelfth game, one more than Boat. In division two after winning 5-4 against Sutton Sports and Social, Boldmere Tap remain four points to the good on Old Oscott Arrows, Pint Pot Flights and Boot Inn, Pint Pot having a game in hand on the teams above them. Brickmakers Arms, leaders of the Stourbridge and District Monday Night League had a big 8-1 win over fourth in the table Britannia in week ten to keep their 100% win record intact and stay just ahead of Ten Arches ‘A’, who have also won all ten games, their latest being 9-0 against Kingswinford Conservative Club ‘A’. The Ten Arches ‘B’ team are third just two points adrift of the leading pair after adding a 6-3 win at Garibaldi to their account. A 7-2 win over Plume of Feathers was not good enough to keep Red Lion top of the Shirley and District Monday Night League as second placed Sharman Sharks 9-0 win at Shirley Spartac put them on the same four points as Red Lion but with a slender one leg of average to the good. Other teams to have won both of their opening two games are Cider House, The Wharf and The Bears Individual achievements saw Andy Foulkes (Sharman Sharks) hit a 180 as did Lee Harris (Saracens Jesters) and Matt McCallion (Cider House). Red Lion’s Dave Hesketh recorded a terrific 160 game shot. Brickmakers Arms have doubled their lead at the top of the Silver End Sunday Morning League to two points after winning 5-3 against High Acres and second in the table Netherton Cricket Club being held to a 4-4 draw by Dudley Sports who are in a mid-table position. Reigning champions Woodside handed out an 8-0 whitewash to their visiting team New Talbot to hold on to third place, however they are still seven points off the top of the table. As the Pip Club League nears the end of its season the two seeded leagues have already produced winners as in division one Queens Head with 26 points have a four points lead on second placed The Office with Office having one remaining fixture. The Cricket Club are top of the table, a 6-3 win at Railway keeping them ahead of the Conservative Club on average, however their average was reduced as the Conservative Club won 9-0 against Wootton Bears who as a result of their defeat drop from third to fourth and are replaced by Wythall RBL whose 8-1 win against Village Inn puts them ahead of the Bears on average, both teams have eight points.
