Penultimate Stage Victory give Gill Hope
Gills 5-4 victory over Sheffields Tony Darlow moved him into joint 28th in the Rankings List which has it^s final event this Saturday (7th June) at the Huntington venue.
Gill (21 and 180 for 16) set up a 2-0 lead in the Red Dragon Darts sponsored event stage final only to see Darlow (16 and 17) take the next three legs. An eighteen dart leg each saw Darlow come within a leg of victory but Gills determined throw brought 16 and 105 finish for 15 to seal the win.
Gill (20-20-16 and 15) beat Mark Lawrence (17 and 18) 4-2 in the Semi-final whilst York^s John Quantock (12 and 18) was the home cities best coming within a whisker of beating Darlow (17) but going down 4-3. Quarter Final results showed Quantock (20-17 and 106 finish for 15) beating Jim Bannister 3-0 which was the same score that Darlow inflicted on Ian Watson. Fred Evans (York) went down 3-2 to Gill as did Brian Dawson against Lawrence (16).

The best from the earlier rounds saw Quantock in top form in Group One hitting 14-15-19-18 and 18 dart legs. Andy Walshaw added 2 x 18^s and 20 darts. John Bowler (20-18-17) was the best in Group Two. Tony Darlow 17-18-13-15-17 and 18 darts along with Padgett (19-17-19-18) and Neil Hart (19-18) were the highlights in Three. Martin Wilson (17), Ian Watson (21) and Alex render (19) hit the fastest legs in Group 4 as were Evans (20) and Russ King 17-19-19 in Group Five. Gill (17-18-19) saw off Steve Vine (17) in Group 6. The ever consistant Rich Corner (20-21-21-15-17 and 17) was in form in Seven as were Dawson (15-16 and 16) and Darren Johnson (2 x 15). Colin Hendry (16-17 then 20 and 21), Joshua Craw (14) and Conley (16) were best of the rest.
Quantock lead the way on the finishes with a 150 checkout closely followed by Gill on 149. Other ton plus finishes came from Mark Hartley (130), Dean Conley (120), Tim Grice (117), Watson (114) with Darren Johnson and Corner both closing on 104. Further 180^s were added by Darlow (2) with Quantock, Kirk Bevins, Hart, Padgett, Martin Wilson, Peter Rushby, Corner, Johnny Scott, Conley and Craw adding one each. The fastest leg came from Quantock, 12 darts.
The Winners of the fun "Blind Pairs " were Dave Kerr and Dave Lord who beat Matty Pemberton and Alex Render in the final. Beaten Semi-finalists were Russ King/Ian Atkin and Phil Good/Colin Hendry whilst Jack Good won the Youth knokcout.
The last Ranking Stage is this Saturday, 7th June, at Huntington WMC in York. Registration closes at 12.30pm for 1pm start and the event is open to all players of all standards.
