Humberside brought down to earth

HUMBERSIDE have been brought down to earth in the North East Division of the Northern Youth League following a surprise 10-7 defeat by previously struggling Durham.

Yorkshire have now overtaken Humberside, who are in second though Humberside have another home fixture this weekend when they entertain Lancashire.

Current positions are: Yorkshire p5, pts 48; Humberside p5, pts 44; Lancashire 3, 38; Tyne 5, 25; Durham 3, 22.

Humberside won the under-21 game 3-2 and the under-18 4-3 but the women lost 3-0.

The under-21s were going well with Alan Smirk a 2-1 winner, Leon Bailey man of the match with a 2-0 win including a maxmium 180 and a 27.08 average, and Mike Wainman a 2-0 win.

Bailey has now won all five of his games.

But then Joe Lickiss lost 2-1 and the final game in which Durham clinched the 10-7 win and the two bonus point, Matthew Wadforth was beaten 2-l in a contentious match with Martin Douthwaite.
