Article: FROM VIENNA TO BARBADOS TO TAKE SINGLES DARTS CROWN

FROM VIENNA TO BARBADOS TO TAKE SINGLES DARTS CROWN

Now in its tenth year, it was fitting that the winner of the Stag Open Singles at this year’s Brydens Barbados Darts Festival, Aaron Hardy, was the person who had travelled the farthest to participate!  In all there were participants from 11 different countries – a record for the event.

The thirty-two-year-old is based in Vienna and is ranked the No.3 darts player in Austria. His father Kevin has been a great supporter of the Barbados Darts Festival and of darts in Barbados in general and always wanted his son to enjoy the unique experience of the event.

This year father and son made it and they teamed up in the Dewar’s Men’s Pairs and got to the final where they narrowly lost to Alan Collins and Darren May.

Aaron’s opponent in the final was, again, Alan Collins who had had a superb Festival, already being on the winning team for three events.

The tense final that went the distance was characterized by some excellent darts.  With the score at two legs each, it all came down to the fifth and final game with Collins having the first opportunity to check out but he missed the double 20 to take the title.  Hardy still needed 56 but the man from Vienna waltzed up to the oche and calmly hit single 16 with his first dart to leave himself double top.  The roar from the crowd after his first attempt said it all!

Wayne Mardle will again be hosting the 2012 Brydens Barbados Darts Festival which will take place from October 31 to November 9.  The nine night packages start from £860.00
