DAY SEVEN DARTS DRAMA: STATEMENTS, SHOCKS & HISTORY AT ALLY PALLY

A Night of Defining Moments at the World Championship

Day Seven at the Paddy Power World Darts Championship delivered drama, statement performances and a moment of genuine history, as Wade snapped a long wait for Ally Pally success and Van Barneveld became the first former World Champion to exit this year’s tournament. Wednesday night proved once again that reputations mean nothing once the first dart is thrown.

Adam Sevada 3–1 Matt Campbell

(3-1, 2-3, 3-2, 3-0)

North American breakthrough

Adam Sevada claimed a landmark World Championship victory in an all-North American clash. After a tense opening, Sevada seized control in the third set, producing superb combination finishes of 117, 66 and 70 to swing the match.
Calm under pressure, Sevada closed it out to set up an eye-catching second-round tie with Charlie Manby.

Stefan Bellmont 3–0 Raymond van Barneveld

(3-1, 3-0, 3-1)

Shockwaves at Ally Pally

The shock of the tournament so far. Stefan Bellmont produced a clinical, fearless display to whitewash five-time World Champion Raymond van Barneveld and become the first Swiss player to win a match at the World Darts Championship.
Bellmont dominated the doubles, winning nine of the final ten legs and never allowing Barney to find rhythm. A career-defining win and one that sent Ally Pally into disbelief.

James Wade 3–0 Ryusei Azemoto

(3-1, 3-0, 3-0)

Wade back in business

James Wade returned to winning ways on the World Championship stage with a composed, professional straight-sets victory. The four-time semi-finalist reeled off seven legs on the spin, controlling the pace and punishing mistakes to book his place in round two.
It wasn’t flashy, it was effective. And for Wade, that was exactly the point as he set up a rematch with Ricky Evans.

Martin Schindler 3–1 Stephen Burton

(3-1, 0-3, 3-0, 3-0)

Authority from Germany’s number one

Martin Schindler underlined his credentials with the standout performance of the night. After a brief wobble in set two, Martin Schindler flipped the switch, firing in seven 180s and averaging 99.14 to close out the contest in style.

Relentless scoring, ruthless finishing and a serious statement from Germany’s leading man.
