Darts News – From Around the West Midlands by Alan Towe Division one leaders Boldmere St Mikes are in the final of the Four Oaks and District Winter League’s Coronation Shield. Playing away against division two team Drakes Drum they opened up an unassailable 8-1 lead before going on to win 11-4. Last season Boldmere fell at the final hurdle, beaten 10-5 by The Boat, but this year they will face fellow division one side Pint Pot Flights who also stormed into an 8-1 lead and went on to win 11-4 in their home tie with The Digby from division two. In the semi-finals of the Norman Day Cup third division’s Deer’s Leap opened up an 8-1 lead and ran out 12-3 winner’s against Rosey’s Chaps from division two, their final opponents will be division two leaders Red Lion who took out second division rivals St Thomas Arrows 13-2. N.Robbins (Pint Pot Flights), M.Wild (Boldmere St Mikes) and L.Cooksey (The Digby) all recorded their second 180 of the season, while T.Kelly (Deer’s Leap) and M.Corfield (Red Lion) both recorded their first. R.Mercer (Pint Pot Flights) was in fine scoring form as he hit nine of his sides eighteen tons. The South Birmingham League played off their Blind Doubles and winning the event were Richard Mills and Dan Stone who beat Luis Barberan and Luke Beale in the final. On the league front leaders C’s Top Guns added a 7-2 win over Centurion to their account to make it six straight wins and giving them a two points lead plus a game in hand on their nearest rivals Banbury Arrows who suffered their second defeat in seven games when they lost 5-4 at home to Coleshill Social who are now only two points behind them in third place with two games in hand. No change at the top of the Kings Norton League as the top six teams all recorded wins in game 23. With a 5-4 result Dunky’s Boys beat Highwood Gerry’s Boys and have replaced them at the top of the premier division of the Sheldon and District Winter League. Dunky’s with 22 points are two to the good on both second and third in the table Highwood Gerry’s Boys and Langley Arrows plus they have a game in hand on both teams. Langley Arrows won their game at Kingshurst Labour Club 6-3. In division one Hornet have already won the divisional title, their latest 5-4 win over Crown-Forget-Me-Not taking their number of points to 26 from 14 games, eight more than second in the division Hobs Meadow who won 6-3 against North Star. The week’s results had no effect on the division two table whatsoever as top team Meadway Sports and Social added a 6-3 win over Small Heath Gardeners to their tally to keep them two points ahead of second placed Inn on the Green who also won 6-3 against Sheldon Marlborough Ridge, they have now played one game more than Meadway. What a finish is in store in the Camp Hill Marston’s League. With just one more game to play, three teams at the top of the table are all on 18 points. Emerald Club lost pole position after losing 4-3 away to fourth in the league Roost Rebels and taking over in the number one spot on average is Nomads who chalked up a 5-2 win away to bottom of the table Peaky Blinder. With Emerald Club now second Tyseley WMC are third, their 5-2 win over Wagon giving them the same number of points as the two teams above them. After only three fixtures have been played in division one of the Shirley and District Monday Night League just two teams Dunky’s Boys and Wharf remain undefeated. Dunky’s Boys have ousted Tippetts Bar from the number one spot after beating them 5-4 and have a two points lead over Red Lion, Tippetts Bar and Wharf but Wharf have only played two games, the latest of which saw them win 8-1 against Saracens Misfits. As in division one there are only two teams unbeaten in division two and only average separates Howell’s Angels and Saracens Swords at the top of the division. Angels are top after their 8-1 home win over HSDT while Swords won 5-4 against Solihull Municipal. Big wins for the top two teams in the Stourbridge and District Monday Night League as leaders Brickmakers Arms took their undefeated run to 27 games with an 8-1 win at British Oak, Oak dropping one place to sixth. Second in the league Britannia went one better than Brickmakers by handing their hosts Fox Inn (Lye) a 9-0 whitewash to keep within twelve points of Brickmakers and hold on to their very slight, but almost remote chance of winning the title with only seven more fixtures to play. In the Henley Winter League Beausale lost 6-3 to Dorridge while in the other game played Studley Cricket Club ran out 8-1 winners against Wythall with Jeff Quinn being the only winner for Wythall, the match included 24 tons or more for Studley and 12 for Wythall. In the league table Studley Cricket Club with 20 points are two clear of second placed Studley Conservative Club with Wootton Bears third on 12 points. All of the top three teams in the Netherton Thursday Night League, Dudley Ex Serviceman’s Club, Bulls Head and Brickmakers Arms won 7-2 in week two. The Ex Serviceman’s home win over Townsend Social Club sees them top the table on average closely followed by Bulls Head who also won at home against Fairfield. Third on average Brickmakers played away against Spring Meadow and trail the leaders by just three legs of average. After having a bye in week one Old Hill Cricket Club got off the mark with a 5-4 win over Netherton Conservative Club and come straight into the table at number four, three points behind the three teams above them but with a game in hand. The South West Birmingham Clubs League played off two of their cup finals the first of which was the Rose Brown Cup in the Ladies Division fought out between Bournbrook and Stirchley Nomads. Stirchley stormed into a 3-0 lead only to see Bournbrook reduce the arrears to 3-2 before Sam Moore sealed the win for Stirchley, their third such win in four years. The final score 5-2 to the Nomads. The Premier Division Cup final between Longbridge United and Yardley Wood saw Longbridge take a 3-0 lead and although John Smart reduced the deficit with his win over Micky Brown Longbridge won the next three games to become champions. The last two games went to Yardley Wood to give a final score of 6-3 to Longbridge United.

Incredibly the top six teams in the Brierley Hill Monday Night League all played away in week six and surprisingly all of them won. Leaders High Oak travelled to Lamp Tavern and returned with a 7-2 result, second placed Mount Pleasant won 6-3 at Wombourne Pool Bar and third in the table Rose and Crown, with a maximum 170 break for Reece Colley, won 9-0 at Dudley Sports ‘B’. There was also a 9-0 win for fourth in the table Dudley Ex Serviceman’s Club against Limes Club who were seventh in the table while fifth placed Delph Bell had a 7-2 success at King William and rounding off the top six Brickmakers Arms were 5-4 winners at Crestwood. Despite winning 6-3 against Tividale FC in the Rowley Monday Night League and taking their unbeaten run to seven games The Bell had their average lead over George reduced to just two legs as George won 7-2 at Ex Serviceman’s Club. Third in the table Cradley Sports and Social Club had an away game against newcomers and early season leaders Beech Tree. The final score was a close 5-4 for the Sports and Social Club to leave them joint third with Fairfield whose 7-2 win at Hare and Hounds put them level on points and average, Beech Tree meanwhile dropped one place to sixth and are now six points adrift of the top two teams. The Hilltop Friendly Tuesday Night League had round two of their Rickuss Cup on the fixture card, the biggest win of 6-1 going to Tipton Sports who defeated Island Inn. Not far behind Sports was The Vine who accounted for Waggon and Horses with a 5-2 scoreline. Making up the last four teams with 4-3 wins against respective opponents New Talbot and Hayes Social were Horseley Tavern and Ivy Bush. Leaders of the West Midlands Men’s Super League Allen’s Sports Bar ‘A’ had a close 3-2 home win over fourth in the league Bridgtown Social to put them on 133 points giving them a lead of eight over second in the table Railway Tavern who had a similar 3-2 result against Allen’s Sports Bar ‘B’. Third in the league Yeltz Bar ‘A’ fell further behind the top two teams when they suffered a 3-2 home defeat at the hands of the ECC Sports and Social Club team after they had gone 2-0 up with wins from P.Wells and J.Lowe. From that point on it was all ECC as M.Hampson and L.Griffiths in turn won 4-2 against D.Redding and S.Gilliam and rounding off a superb win for ECC was M.Baker who had a straight 4-0 win over I.Townsend. The win sees ECC move up two places in the table to ninth. The Stourbridge and District Wednesday Night League has reached the midway point of its season and it was at that halfway point that Ashwood ‘B’ lost their number one position after they went down 4-3 away to fourth in the table Brickmakers Arms. Ashwood ‘B’ with 30 points are now two behind new leaders Swan ‘A’ who won their game at Fox Inn (Lye) 5-2. Ashwood ‘B’ were the only losers in the top seven teams, eighth placed Wombourne Cricket Club had a bye. As the new season of the Tettenhall Wednesday Night League got underway there were some big scores in week one as Bull and Whitmore Reans WMC in turn won 7-0 against Emerald and Castle, ECC ‘A’ not far behind with their 6-1 win over their ‘B’ side. In week two Whitmore Reans added a second 7-0 result when they beat Dog and Partridge but it was a much closer 4-3 win for Bull in their game at Moreton ‘A’ and there was a close 4-3 defeat for ECC ‘A’ against a strong Cleveland Arms team. With maximums from their Gaz Podmore and Martin Edwards Belgrave Sports and Social Club march on in the Pip Club League adding an 8-1 win at Progressive Club to their account to make it 14 straight wins to give them a six points advantage over their nearest rivals Dolphin Wanderers who had a close 5-4 verdict against third in the table Birchmoor Club to open a two points lead over them. There were also 180’s for Andy Smith (Dolphin Wanderers), Mark Faulkner (Globe, Wilnecote) and Simon Smith (The Longwood).
