Darts News – A West Midlands Round Up By Alan Towe

Crown at Shard End gained an important win in the premier division of the Sheldon and District Winter League in week fourteen beating Saltley Amateur Gardeners 5-4 and replacing them in second place in the table with 18 points from 11 games, Saltley have the same 18 points but from 13 games. Crown at Olton continue to lead the division with 22 points from 12 games following their latest 7-2 win over Pavillions.
A 5-4 win by Solihull Moors at Sheldon Marlborough Flights keeps them two points ahead of Highwood KB’s at the top of division one, KB’s beating Iron Horse 5-4 and moving up from fourth to second with 20 points plus a game in hand on Moors, while Iron Horse drop one place to third and are now four points behind Moors but with two games in hand.
Division two leaders Crown Arrows beat Maggies 6-3 and knocked them down one place in the table to third, there was also an upset for Shirley RBL Misfits whose 5-4 home defeat by Highwood Arrows has also seen them drop one place to fourth.

The latest of the Riley’s Solihull Last Sunday in the Month Knockouts saw West Midlands county star Nick Fullwell clinch the top prize with a final 6-1 win against a somewhat surprising opponent in the form of twelve years Matthew Cain who actually won the first leg against Fullwell. Fullwell had beaten Dan White 5-3 in the semis while Cain had an amazing 5-1 result against another top class player Matt Padgett, Matthew Cain certainly a name to look out for in the future.

Boldmere St Mikes, top of division one of the Four Oaks and District League had a surprisingly close 5-4 win in week twelve against next to bottom of the table Red Lion who at one stage were leading 2-0, however the win keeps them two points ahead of second placed The Beehive who beat their nearest rivals Golden Hind 6-3.
In the second division leaders Golden Hind Arrows suffered their first defeat in eleven games, after leading 4-3 they went down 5-4 away to third in the table The Lions who are now on 14 points from 10 games, two behind second placed Bishop Vesey who had a bye this week, and six off the top, both Bishop Vesey and The Lions have a game in hand on the leaders.
D.G.Bond (Red Lion), A.Nicholls (Boldmere Tap) and J.Yates (Brookvale Social) all hit their first 180 of the season while W.Naylor (Brookvale Social) notched his second.

The Kings Norton League staged the second round of their Section Cup and the biggest winners of the round were Billesley with a 17-4 win over Toby Jug Flights. Court Oak, Toby Jug ‘A’ and Kings Norton RBL in turn were 13-8 winners against Stirchley United, Hillyfields and West Heath. The South Birmingham League staged their singles knockout which attracted an encouraging 68 players and produced some top class darts throughout, the man at the top of his form was Robbie Earl, however he was pushed all the way with 2-1 wins from the last sixteen to the final. Robbie beat D.Whitehouse and Mick Noonan then booked his final spot against Chris Millward jnr with a last four win over Alan Mayell.

The Forest of Arden Winter League’s men’s singles was contested by 35 players with Andy Hutchings the eventual winner after beating Simon Edwards 2-1 in the final. Hutchings had won his semi final against Steve Shepard 2-0, Edwards winning by the same margin against Rob Vann

Winning the ladies singles was Sue Kingdon, a straight 2-0 success against Noreen Harris giving Sue the title. Sue had won her last four game against Laura Vann with the same 2-0 scoreline, runner up Harris was taken to a decider by Diane Hudson before winning 2-1.
The youth knockout was won by Alex Edwards who had a 2-0 result against Michaela Walker in the final.

The Wednesbury and Darlaston Wednesday Night League got their new season underway with the first round of their Margaret Melia Vase which saw 8-1 wins by Staffordshire Knot, T & R Bar and St Mary’s ‘B’ who in turn accounted for Civil Defence, Red Lion and The Vine. With The Untouchables having a bye in week 20 of the Winmau Centre Monday Night League Misfits with a massive 42-6 win over Keep It In The Family have taken over pole position with 622 points. Untouchables have also dropped below second placed What Are Thooose who won 36 -12 against Here For The Beer, their 608 points 19 to the good on Untouchables.
At the end of the table there was a rare win for next to bottom Where’s My Team who beat Double Trouble who are bottom of the table 25-23.

Pensnett Welfare Club ‘A’ got the new season in the Pensnett and Bromley Tuesday Night League off to the best possible start as they handed out a 7-0 whitewash to their local rivals Pensnett Welfare Club ‘B’ to become the first leaders of the new campaign.

In just week three of the new season in the Brierley Hill Monday Night League only two of the sixteen teams remain undefeated. Top of the table The Bridge with a 7-2 result handed out a first defeat to Old Star and reigning champions Dudley Sports ‘C’ went one better with an 8-1 success at Griffin to leave them just one leg of average behind The Bridge.
Pensnett Liberal Club lost for the first time a 6-3 defeat away to The Bell who had previously lost their first two games, there was also a first defeat for High Acres who dropped from third to fifth after losing 5-4 at home to middle of the table Blue Brick.

The Wolverhampton Tuesday Night League played off their doubles knockout and taking the title were the ECC pairing of John Mycock and Simon Meredith who beat Mark Footman and Derek Marston from Corpus in the final.
ECC not only provided the winners but also both of the losing semi finalist pairings of Simon Potts and Karl Hughes plus Sam Guest and Ashe Khayat.
The league will be holding their AGM at the Emerald Club, Cross Street North, Wolverhampton on Tuesday 1st March at 8.00pm.
