Beaton^s Blog: Benidorm Weekend 29th & 30th October
I was looking forward to seeing some sun in Benidorm at the weekend but instead we had torrential rain, ideal weather for indoor sport.
The sun eventually showed when we were leaving on the Monday morning.
The venue was The Melia Benidorm Hotel, lovely place but the room was a little small for the amount of entries.
The reasonably priced beer helped with the heat as the air conditioning had to be turned off.
I made it to the last 16 on the Saturday where Raymond van Barneveld knocked me out 6-3.
Barney beat Phil Taylor 6-5 in the semi’s and James Wade won the tournament 6-2 against Barney in the final.
Earlier in the day Dave Chisnall had knocked out World Champ Adrian Lewis.
On the Sunday I again lost in the last 16 to Wes Newton 6-3.
Congratulations to fellow Winmau stable mate Mark Webster who hit a nine darter in the first round.
Dennis Priestley withdrew through illness, Gary Anderson conceded his game to Jamie Caven in the quarters and Barney beat Phil Taylor for the second day running.
Merv King won the tournament 6-3 against Wes Newton in the final.
Nanette picked me up from the airport Monday afternoon and guess what ‘it was raining’.
Crawley this weekend and then the Grand Slam starts on the 12th Nov, can’t wait.
Off to the dentist now as I’ve had toothache all weekend.
Happy darting
