Article: At long last Wolfie masters the Winmau

At long last Wolfie masters the Winmau

MARTIN Adams dramatically ended his long wait for Winmau World Masters glory on Sunday morning (7 December).

The Market Deeping legend had never previously managed to capture the second biggest tournament in the British Darts Organisation calendar, but he put that right in fine style by seeing off Scott Waites 7-6 in a final thriller.

Adams pocketed a cool £25,000 for his troubles and also earned another £1,000 for producing the highest checkout of the televised stages with a 160.

He said: "I have been trying to win this tournament for close to 20 years and I can^t tell you how wonderful it feels to have done it.

"It was the only really big one that I hadn^t won and I am delighted to finally get my hands on it."

^Wolfie^ Adams (52) missed three darts for the match before finally sinking an arrow in double-eight in the fourth leg of the deciding set, but was most pleased with his display when destroying Tony O^Shea 6-2 in the semi-finals.

He added: "I felt the semi was my best performance of the weekend. Tony is one hell of a player so you always know you have done well to beat him by that sort of margin."

Adams^ route to the final:

Last 16 - bt Martin Atkins (Eng) 3-2.

Quarter-final - bt Steve Farmer (Eng) 3-0.

Semi-final - bt Tony O^Shea (Eng) 6-2.

Final - bt Scott Waites (Eng) 7-6.

And Adams now knows the identity of his first opponent in the Lakeside World Championship next month. Adams, who will be bidding to repeat his 2007 triumph at Frimley Green, faces Dave Chisnall of Lancashire in the opening round.
